First, congrats. 8k people is fcking impressive, considering how smooth it is.
Queue with 8k is STILL 700+. Are you guys, considering how apparently hugely popular this is, going to consider a 2nd server and transfers to even it out?
Originally, Kaer said something like "If the server is a huge success we will consider opening a second one to ease the server load" (not actual wording). So.... I don't know... Maybe? They certainly can't hope to increase it further without roasting their hardware, I am astonished at how far they've come really, a year ago, the servers would lag with a 5k cap.
Hope all the cash they've pumped into the hardware will come around. Here's hoping they're gonna change their ideea for the coin shop and make it cosmetics/transmog/pets/mounts only.
i think hardware isnt a problem here.
i worry more about core stability. not sure if Blizzard even consider such population per realm online with 3.3.5 patch...
when server (software) will get more data than it can proces it will start to choke.
Server split with joint BGs and such would be okay. The disconnects are making the server unplayable, which should be their main focus.
TBC released so it's more popular that usual. Once it dies down, you don't want 2 split servers with low population, you want to keep them in the same place after the storm.
I think the best idea is having an overflow server just for when it's busy, but I don't know if that's too hard/expensive or whatnot to implement. It's the best option short-and-long-term.
Frostwolf too was very popular at launch. It's a common phenomena. People always jump to something that's new. The hype will fade off with time so I don't think that opening another realm is a good decision for the time being. It might turn out to be another "Hellscream" (the realm Molten launched after the success of "Stormstout" - the first MoP realm. Hellscream failed because no one transferred from Stormstout due to the fact that people already had formed their guilds. It had 1/3rd of SS's population, which was consisted of mostly new players.)
If they do launch another realm they should allow people to transfer from Lordaeron, since most of us have already formed communities.
Close warsong and save up resources. 350 ppl vs 9k ppl... Nobody has a problem with 15 minutes queueing, only ******s who have absolutely nothing else to do.
A sincere thank you to those complainers about queue's, you ruined our sunday.

Yup this happens always, every MMO that downsizes or upsizes quickly. Opening a new server or splitting them is not a good idea, because one becomes a desert. Always.

I don't mind 15m queues, but getting D/Ced every 30-60 minutes and being forced to wait again in a queue sucks.

Such a move would invalidate the deal between AT and Molten. As dead as the two PvP-only realms are, they represent AT. Even though Arena Tournament was pretty much dead when they joined with Molten (it was dead as soon as the popular names and streamers left, as well as the decline of events and tournaments), the players who transferred from there deserve their share of realms. Closing Warsong and Blackrock could damage what's left of their community.
A second realm is what devs are more inclined too, I guess, although I could not imagine how painful it would be managing another realm,
So, I see here two possible way outs, the easy way and the hard way (that's just me eh):
1. Do it or,
2. Merge Deathwing with Ragnaros, as they have identical rates and releases, together making a lil bit more than 6k on its worst time and use one of them for x1 etc etc, having the same 4 LK realms
But I guess it might be better to wait and see few more weeks if / how hard population will grow.

Don't hate on the server queue because you have a bad connection :p
Yes, make another x1 realm - PvE, with the RDF enabled. Come at me nerds, unleash your rage xD
But no, seriously, at WotLK launch Lord will hit 10-12K online easily, with the introduction of DKs and the content that everyone is waiting for. Now the server can't handle that many people, so the queue will become a serious problem, we'll have MoP 2.0 and even more ppl on ati-afk bots.
But for how long? With the ICC release Lord will become just another "grind one raid till the end of time" realm...

Hellscream sucked compared to Storm - no decent guilds, no good players, just a disorganized mess.
