The paladin class has always been the most played one on wotlk private servers. It can fit any kind of role, both on pve and pvp, and it's the first class chosen by almost every new world of warcraft player. It's quite easy to play a paladin unless you really want to master this class at its full potential. And last but not least because wings.
Paladins were the most favourite class even on old lordaeron (before transfers) but there are plenty of other classes too, you are probably seeing too many paladins because u are leveling in ghostlands :P
It's a very strong class during leveling and also late game. Like Panofsky said, people most likely play it for it's potential to be easy play hard to master class and it's diversity in roles that you can choose.
It's also favoured by DK mains since it's a easy class to level to the cap to unlock a DK (and to kill time before wrath's release).
Pretty much this
yesterday i was questing on my hunter in feralas and i saw 3 horde paladins fighting 4 allaince paladins DFAKKKK!!!!!
anyway i think its because they are easy to learn, easy to level and really strong in PVP.not high level arenas but duels bgs and stuff like this rets can kill in 2 hits.
Easy for those who don't care to play it properly. Overpowered by those who can't play against them properly. Recipe for bads to QQ.
First WOW players pick hunters and druids. No, paladins are played by people with experience in WOW and who know that the class is easy and can fit every role. A new WOW player doesn't go in thinking hey I can play paladin as healer, DPS and tank too. They just go for the good looking elves.
Same with humans. No new player plays human for the racial, only the PVPers who want to min-max.
As for private servers, people already know most expansions and every WOW player knows that palas were OP in WOTLK that's why they are most played
