Probably frost, as threat of thassarian alone will likely surpass everything unholy has to offer. But don't take my word too seriously, I ain't playing on lord. I'm simply judging by the gear and talents available to you guys.
Frost.
However I checked on the PTR a month or two back while doing Naxx/OS and I went Unholy for a few fights and the DPS wasn't marginally different, was on the lower end though.
Toppest, top notch: Frost.
But in reality unholy will have its merit as well, obviously AOE fights, but even single target you won't be a drag at all, you will be right there with frosties sometimes.
Even blood dk dps might work once you get access to arp gems.
This^
Unholy is nice with its AoE Ebon Plaguebringer and AoE damage, but these two things are its only advantages over Frost. Frost's single-target DPS is superior to Unholy and Icy Talons is a very useful buff, which only an Enh Shaman can bring apart from an FDK (and Enh sucks on WotLK, unless the player is exceptional). Blood won't be competitive at least until late ToC mainly due to lack of ArP gear. Read "competitive" - being able to reach or surpass Unholy or Frost.
Just remember that UH brings two things (rolled into one) that no other spec or class can:
1. Ebon Plaguebringer affects aoe, in contrast to Balance and Locks that are only on singular targets. This is a very notable damage increase for any fight with some form of aoe / adds.
2. Ebon Plaguebringer increases disease damage taken by 30% (on top of the 13% magic damage debuff). This affects ALL the DK's and SPriests in the raid (SP's especially will love you for it). So it's a quite notable increase in raid dps (since it also frees the locks up to cast CoD / CoA).
In terms of personal DPS on single targets, UH is only very marginally behind Frost (assuming equal gear and skill), while providing unique utility.
Blood is, contrary to popular belief, also reasonably competitive. While it does gain a lot from ArP, it isn't entirely reliant on ArP to provide good dps. While the buff you bring as Blood is fairly common, you do have the unique ability to increase a physical dpser's damage by 20% on a 3 minute cooldown. Yes you can use it on yourself, but you can also use it on, for instance, a Feral during Berserk, or a hunter during Rapid Shot (since these classes will typically be above you anyway) - This is a pretty selfless way to increase raid dps (usually by a fair amount). All of this is while still not being at the bottom of the pile in terms of your own dps.
Idk, I wouldn't call Blood reasonably competitive in early WotLK, rly. I mean, I played it at WotLK's release back when it was absurdly overpowered, but after Blizz nerfed it and removed Obliterate from Might of Mograine everyone switched to Unholy or Frost.
I agree on your point regarding disease damage, I had totally forgotten about that.
All in all, Unholy is "just fine" to DPS with as well, as long as the player knows what he's doing in order to not fall too far behind a Frost DK. I mean that Unholy has a lot more things to manage compared to Frost - Bone Shield, Gargoyle, Ghoul, Desolation... especially Gargoyle's synergy with trinket and Fallen Crusader procs. The only thing Frost has to manage is Unbreakable Armor since Icy Talons gets auto-refreshed by the rotation.
PS - it's good to see you back, Offbeat :)
Unholy dk's single target isn't close to frostdk, no where near actually.
Blood and frost are pretty close in single target dps in short fights.
if a fight stretches it will always be frost>blood>unholy.
Blood requires heavily on rng to be superior in short fights, in short fights it will be blood>frost>unholy
Unholy is by far the weakest, im not saying its bad but unholy isn't a good single target dps spec.
