There are various ways of receiving gear after you hit 80. My advice start grinding reputation with major Northrend factions...each of them have a quarter master that sells a few epics and blues that you can use. After that start queing up for Normal RDF get some more gear and que for RDF HC. After you do enough dungeons you should have plenty of emblems and gold to buy some T9 set pieces and start raiding TOC, VOA,ICC.
Yea definitely hit up the reputation for initial gear. Also consider joining a guild that could potentially help take you through a couple of dungeons to get you some drops and gold.
What server are you on? If ur on DW message Vorg or Bearclaw ingame and I'll carry you through a few FoS/PoS runs
