1. DDoS Prevention

Does Warmane has any DDoS protection tools?

cos its really messed up when you are playing arenas/wintergrasp and when the opposite team is loosing, they will rather do DDoS attack instead of loosing...

  2. There's a difference between a DDOS attack on the server and on a player.
When the server gets ddos'ed, the server is down and nobody can play, Lordaeron has protection from that yes.
A ddos attack on a player is when somebody finds your IP adress through skype for example, and ddos's you specifically, it has nothing to do with the server, your entire internet wont work at all when you get ddosed, not just warcraft.

Could be wrong, but if a server gets ddosed, it doesn't automatically mean that there is no way for you to play. If it's not a very large attack, it may go unnoticed afaik.

  4. Only huge attacks can bring the server down. There is no way to protect from huge attacks without anyone noticing the difference unless you have 600Gbps network just for your computer... Since there is no way (atleast without millions of money) to get 600Gbps network for single computer ofcourse the server goes down sometimes but after they have noticed the attack they can enable mitigation systems which takes a moment to take effect

  5. Yes, most attacks we receive players don't even hear about. Only the massive ones cause issues and make it so mitigation has to go into action.
Either way, we are in no way responsible if people are attacking you directly. They can't find out your IP from us to do that, making it your own issue to deal with.

  6. scenar, don't worry, they will have Quite a hard time to organise a ddos attack... unless, the enemies are guarding a server room, but are quite bored, and decide to play wow... don't ask, a video from a teen movie i watched ago :D

  7. In case you are interested, Warmane hosts in OVH which is known to be quite solid. I assume they also use OVH-Game products which means they have most likely OVH-Game Anti-ddos: https://www.ovh.co.uk/anti-ddos/anti-ddos-game.xml

Basically it's a network level protection against DDoS attacks. Even though they advertise 480 Gbps capacity, that is the global amount. As for anti-ddos game, I suppose that depending the time, they are willing to block up to 80-150 Gbps for one customer.

Therefore the actual capacity would be 80-150 Gbps or up to several tens of millions packets per second.

Source: L4D2 game hosting experience :} OVH rocks. I also suggested it for Warmane in the forums during moltdown.
