    Playing where the skill matters.

Hello everyone, i currently play on Mists of Pandaria server as a Rogue, but i got too bored, because in MoP skill does not really matter, only gear and class. I started playing WoW back in BC, played it for too long, then i jumped right on Cataclysm and now here i am, playing MoP and getting mad because of other overpowered classes, i skipped Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and i think to give it a try, a lot of people say that it's considered the best WoW expansion, and also they say that skill matters there. So i am wondering now, as a PvP player where should i go? Lordaeron or Icecrown?

Here is the thing, in Lordaeron there are 12,000 players online every day, huge queues, but there are no legendary weapons, which i think will be a bit better for my class. However i think it's more PvE then PvP.

On Icecrown, there will be like 7000 players online every day and the leveling is a bit faster, but there are legendary weapons and i think this will make my class suffer a little bit, the good thing is that i won't wait queues and it's going to be definitely more PvP related.

So, dear community, which WotLK server should i go as a Rogue PvP player? Lordaeron or Icecrown - (the future realm)

I know my class, i have never tried WotLK before, share your thoughts and help me decide. Thanks in advance.

    Spoiler: Show
For the friends that are playing MoP, do not worry, i will play both expansions.

Deffo Lordaeron, and tbh skill cap is so much higher on Lordaeron.People actually know what to do there in arena.

The one issue with Lordaeron is that PvE raids are buffed up. This means only the top guilds are able to access the PvE gear that is vital to being BiS for PvP in wotlk. As a result you will likely see PvE players outperforming those that only PvP.

In terms of legendaries, they are still in the game in Lordaeron. The only difference is that players will not be able to donate for them. Again, all this means is that those who are able to get them will be much stronger than everyone else who isn't able to get them (mostly PvE players). In any case, legendaries don't make a bad player become r1, a player that is able to become r1 can do so with or without Shadowmourne.

Eventually you will be able to donate for gear (non legendary) thus making it easier tho dont expect cheap prices.70-140 coins per trinket/weapon slots which most people will go for.

Which by definition makes Lordaeron a "pay to be competitive" realm. If you look at the ladder right now, it is all players from guilds that were vying for realm first, and if you look at their weapons, they are mostly Ulduar drops.

Also, as we know, ilvl 284 will not be on the coin shop for Lordaeron. It is likely that what is currently on Ragnaros/Deathwing's vote shop will be on sale in the Lordaeron coin shop (when ICC is finally released).

Atleast on Icecrown, one can get close to bis using just vote points, allowing players to be close to competitive for free (as well as raids being not so difficult). Furthermore coin costs are lower on Icecrown so players can get BiS on the cheap as well, if that is what they wish.

FYI:This is why MoP's gearing system is significantly stronger than Wotlk. It seperates PvE from PvP and allows players that want to PvP to not get dominated by those that get stronger items from raids. It's a shame that MoP failed in every other way for PvP.

    I agree, shame.

Still haven't decided which WotLK server to play.

Hello,i play on Deathwing soon will be merget into icecrown in 9 days fkc ye! :D
Try to see from my perspective:
First it's a high rated server exp 7x and etc, fast leveling higher drops, more easy gold and reputation farming is faster + dont forget the MARKETPLACE i love the new points store, its a play to win mode, you almost get bis from it.
About pvp, well you know that skilled players are everywhere,so dunno i hear many people saying that in lordaeron "almost everyone knows what to do in arenas" ye well here on Deathwing "almost everyone knows what to do in arenas" :D so yeah...

About legendaries just like mr Notorious said, that skill matters the most,i use glorenzelg(second best wep after sm) and i won many times vs sm users specially a dk vs dk,even in 1v1 tournaments(events),if youre bis and your enemy is bis with a sm,trust me skill will make more difference.
From me i would say come on DW or Ragnaros,or wait for merge and start a char there, some people will say lord is better some dudes might show up to say go blackrock or something, its up to you,if you want to save time simple come on high rate server.

as we know, ilvl 284 will not be on the coin shop for Lordaeron.

I already created a character on Ragnaros, now i will level it up to max just for the name reservation. Thank you everyone for these replies, i have contacted more people and they said that Icecrown is going to be better in PvP.

With such fortune-telling skills, you should be playing the lottery!

It has been stated many times that the coin shop will remain one tier behind BiS available in-game. It is unlikely staff will deviate from this on what is essentially their pet project. Please do not try to spread rumors based on what you THINK will happen.

@Critically: I think you will be a bit disappointed if you think gear does not matter in wotlk. Gear plays a larger role in wotlk than it does in MoP, and to be BiS one requires quite a few pieces of PvE gear (generally obtained through the coin/vote shop or through raiding on Lordaeron). Still, I find PvP to be more enjoyable in wotlk, as it is much faster paced than MoP is (at least in the current state).

taken from the official thread posted by Kaer Wolf:

    MARKETPLACE COIN RESTRICTIONS:
    - Items available will be 1 Tier below items obtainable in-game until all content is released in all modes

    please stop embarrassing yourself

Fair enough I just checked the thread. Given how you presented this in your previous comment, it seemed more to be your guessing than an actual fact.

In any case, one would need gear from the previous tier to buy the next one, so I can imagine it's going to be quite difficult obtaining BiS items just right off the bat (as it is possible currently on Rag/DW).

Based on what you've wrote, I'd say give Lordaeron a go (Icecrown is going to be FILLED with already BiS charters and what not). With Lordaeron, you really get to start with everyone else in a sense (plus there's not too many rogues on Lord, i'd say. Hope this helps. Definitely go Lordaeron. Also the pvp on ragnaros/dw is not so great :|. but ya, Lordaeron is nice.

  14. May 11, 2016
The reason there arent so many rogues on Lord is because at least 40% of the server are plate wearers. This isn't necessarily a problem if you're a good rogue but if you're bad or even just a decent rogue all these dudes sporting tons of hp/armour is going to make you pull your hair out

    Similar deal on Rag/DW.

Well i am not a decent player, but let's just say i'm a normal player who knows it's class. The only thing i don't really like about Lordaeron is the queues, my time is often limited and cannot manage to wait hours to log in. Plus that, i saw a friend of mine that is currently playing on Lordaeron and he said that 80% of the players are PvErs. He told me to not look at these 12,000 players online, because only 1000 are actually doing some PvP, so PvP is almost dead. But on the other side, i like this legendary weapons removal feature on Lordaeron, feels good. Leveling does not really bother me, and i don't care if it's 1x or 10x

I am still wondering which one to pick, but at the end i think it will be Icecrown, because it's more PvP related.

This friend of mine may be wrong, i will wait for more thoughts, feel free to share.
