Plans for a new WOTLK server?

    Hey there,

Long time player/donor, had a few characters on Ragnaros before the merge.

I've a question: Is there any plan to add a new server with the new engine for WOTLK?

You might think this is stupid since they just merged two servers, but hear me out:

I used to login every day and raid or something, but after the merge I find the server (Icecrown) to be completely full for when I'm home and able to connect. Whenever for some miracle it has room for me to join, Dalaran is so full of people the FPS drops to awful low numbers and there are 70 players camping each ore vein/herb/quest target spots. So since the merge I just simply did not play. Either I couldn't, or it was just too frustrating to try.

    "But now it's Blizz-like"
Well if I wanted a clone of Blizzard servers I would go and play there instead of here.

Merging the two was a good idea BEFORE updating the engine. But now everybody wants to try the new engine with these rates. You can see Lordaeron lost players while Icecrown is often full. So, what's the plan? Wait longer to see what happens? Or are you guys thinking of setting up a new WOTLK with the same rates as Icecrown? Or are you just "ok" with having a huge queue to login?

    Thank you.

    UPDATE:

    a) If you are donator, you have no queues on Icecrown
    b) Blizz-like is not the same as blizz-clone
    c) would you rather have a ton of people or nobody who queues for pvp/does anything for pve (like it was before the merge)?
    a) ok, didn't know that. Instead of trying to login right off the bat, I'd normally go check the website to vote and if it states 12k players on I wouldn't even try. Thank you for the information, now I know I can login anytime. HOWEVER, I'm not the type of person who don't care about a problem if it doesn't affect me. There are plenty of people who are not donors. I'm stating that if the server continues to have 12k players on constantly in near future, they should consider adding a new one.

    b) I'm aware.

    c) WoW is NOT a pvp game, never was and never will be. It has minor pvp content to please the minority interested in pvp. It's vastly a PVE game with PVE content and ultimately all major game-changing decisions should be focused to improve the PVE experience. This is beyond contestation. With this in mind, after quite a bit of research I've found not a single WoW Retail server to have more than 4,000 concurrently connected players. This information was taken from TODAY, so I can't say for sure how many players they used to have. One journalist who was studying WoW player behaviour for 2 years back in 2009 stated an average of 5-6k players per server at peak CCU. Since Blizzard doesn't share these stats publicly (very few videogame companies do) it's hard to be accurate, but having worked as a producer for 3 years in a big videogame company running a game with over 750k players, the average CCU was about 15k average and peak around 40k across 11 different servers. So you see the CCU is in average about 5% of total accounts at any given time MAX. The census 2016 I've just read on WoW US servers state an average of 100k accounts per server across all servers. EU has similar numbers. Let's not forget WoW players tend to create a lot more accounts than most other multiplayer games. If you do the math, you'll see there are no servers anywhere near 12k pop.

Now, you say you couldn't find anybody to play with on your server before the merge?

At any given time I logged in before, the World chat was always being spammed by people looking for a group or players. Spammed so hard that any message I tried to post there didn't last 2 seconds before it disappeared. While trying to mine any region, I would very very rarely not find competition. I was always getting invited to join ICC or TOC as soon as I logged in, at any time. This was Ragnaros, I can't say how things were on Deathwing side tho.

Bottomline is, doesn't matter if the server holds 100k players, what matters is, like stated above, 6k players is the ideal number, not 12k. You guys thought Icecrown would have 6k at peak since Ragnaros and Deathwing had 3k each at peak time, and so did I. But this is no longer the case, probably due to the new engine. Most players would prefer higher rates instead of 1x, so I can see a high probability that Icecrown will from now on always be pop capped while Lordaeron will lose some of it's pop. In which case, my question is valid and remains unanswered: Are there plans for a new high-rates WOTLK server?

    Thank you.

I just and many others want a blizz-clone..

Seems if you want x1 you got to put up with no RDF & endgame content such as %400 buffs whilst if you want the nearest blizz-like endgame you'll have to choose x7 rates with a bugged RDF on a realm where everyone is already geared and has been for 5 years with 100s of SM's running round... :( sad face :(

It's a shame because the quality of the realms are really bloody good! Like outstanding! I just can't enjoy the content because of how the realms are designed :( However it is what it is..

Forever waiting in the dark for a blizz-clone :(

funny how this thread pops out literally every sunday - the only day of the week when you have to wait in the queue longer than 15 min xD

Dalaran is so full of people the FPS drops to awful low numbers
wut? they've made it so that you can't see people who are like 5 yards away, I get more FPS now than on the old Ragnaros xD

+1 JeeF.. 1 hour waiting queue it's just outrageous.. and "there are 70 players camping each ore vein/herb/quest target spots".................................... :||| 4000-6000 players is the perfect number in my opinion..

we had 4000 on the old realms and they were next to dead. if 12k is to much for you than i suggest you go find a different private server to play on.

On old realms was better, that's the think i'm trying to say. 4000-6000 players -> no queue and days of server uptime (now icecrown has lowerest uptime than all others realms). That's two of the biggest minises :|

    JeeF,

Ragnaros and Deathwing were merged because of community's request to do with this reason behind it - to have more people playing. It weren't 4k playing, it were 2.5k normally, 3k on sunday.
Cap might be increased when the scripts will allow to do so. Warmane could do it right now, but none wants to play on unstable realm... right?

This is funny because the realm is unstable right now ^^
