can't log in to mist of pandaria

I can start up ,the wow.exe but when i try to log in a message pops up and it says the following "You must login with a battle.net account username and password" which is followed by some links.
i'm confident i am using the right password and username. what should i do? Itried to create a new account but the same message still comes up.

i did that but now i get the message " interface\glueXML\AccountLogin.lua:474: attempt to "
and i previously had the wrath of the lich king expansion downloaded and i could log into that just fine

be sure to log-in by using warmane account name and not email address and to use the correct realmlist:
set realmlist logon.warmane.com

to check you are using the correct realmlist follow this guide:
1) Go to your WoW folder where you can find your WoW.exe
2) Double click on your "WTF" folder
3) Right click on the file named "Config.wtf", open it with Notepad
4) On the third line, you should see "realmlist". Replace the text on this line with the following: SET realmlist "logon.warmane.com"
