Do single BG queues work?

When I solo queue in AV it doesn't pop. I wonder if it even works?

You can get into battlegrounds that you solo queued for only with people that solo queued as well.
All the people that queue for Random will get other Random, but the specific battleground queues will never mix up with those.
Since that is rare, it probably won't happen unless you plan it with other people on both sides.
