1. Prot talents and glyphs

    Hello people,

before you bash me.. I HAVE read the guides posted here (especially of jendah and alcyruun) .. and with what little experience i have .. I am building my prot warrior with this talent build.

and as always.. I would like suggestions of what to change and what to keep with this..

also.. need help with the glyphs.. need a list of "must have" glyphs for a prot warrrior.

as of now.. i have glyph of devastate and blocking as major..

and bloodrage and battle as minor..
    thanks in advance..

  2. Hi,

    Prot tree:
    - get Improved Thunder Clap
    - this is your main AoE threat generator
    - usually druids (Infected Wounds) and paladins (Judgements of the Just) and even some DKs do not spend talent points to gain the 20% melee slowing effect which is great to decrease incoming dmg/sec (assuming it works correctly)
    - your other options are worse :)

    - proposal: drop Improved spell reflection
    - there are just a few encounters where this might be useful at all

    - consider dropping Gag Order
    - silence is not really useful in PvE situations since most caster mobs have a cd on his/her spell anyway (though it may seem nice to be able to pull caster mobs from the distance)
    - 10% dmg bonus on your main threat generator is nice, but not a game changer

    - drop Safeguard
    - very-very situational... your job is to hold aggro and have the highest possible EH, not to prevent others from dying (if they do something wrong... healers will try to save them anyway :) )

    - proposal: drop Iron Will
    - charm and stuns effects? name the bosses where this can be an issue... plus you have berserker rage
    - Improved HS, Improved Rend and even Tactical Mastery seems to be more useful

    Glyphs:
    - since you have improved disciplines to fully utilize it shield wall glyph is a "must"
    - last stand is also great for survivability
    - blocking is nice since the uptime is 100% -> great for mitigation and threat as well

Additional thoughts if you play on Lordaeron: always focus on survivabilty --> the increased difficulty really "hurts" Prot Warriors since you need to be much more proactive and reactive (you dont have a smart damage mitigation ability like ardent defender or will of the necropolis and you have much less EH than a druid).

  3. thank you for the detailed reply..

i had taken gag order and iron will.. just in case i enter bgs.. so that i can make some effect without dual specing..

but i will take thunder clap and rend.. thank you again

  4. - 10% dmg bonus on your main threat generator is nice, but not a game changer
da**** ahahahah, "not a game changer" he says, whatever, i guess nothing changes here on forums, same scrubs, with same "l33t suggestions"

    again no taunt glyph? da****?

this is what u should've been using ( i would even remove impale cuz ur crit chance is **** as prot, why even bothering to speccing into crit multi talents when ur crit chance is <10%?)

  5. Yeah, nothing changes here: many offensive replies without any reasonable argument.

First of all: protection warrior is really versatile, so you have many options for glyphs and talents.

What you gain from 10% bonus dmg? 10% bonus threat? Hell NO. Is it a good talent? Yes, of course.
Is it something you cannot skip? Well, it really depends on your gear/progress.
If you consider this talent as a threat generator you probably have better options (e.g. DW).

    again no taunt glyph? da****?
That glyph is a viable option which you should consider.
But again, you have many tools to counter missed taunts: mocking blow, challenging shout and vigilance (on other tank).

    My questions:
    - what is the point of impale without incite?
    - on which bossfight do you enjoy the benefit of iron will?
    - why would you use focused rage? do you have rage issues?

  6. I havent played prot tank at heroics .

but as i sit on lvl 72.. (or 73) i ALWAYS have rage enough to run around, even with the **** gear i have now. so focused rage is just a waste of point..
although. will i need it in heroics? or later raids?

Since your main rage generator is the damage you receive crappier gear means more rage :)

So if you are overgeared for an instance you will have rage issues.

The easiest way to counter this is by changing your gear and using some DPS/PvP gear instead of your regular items. The main point is to lower your mitigation and avoidance (so changing a stamina trinket won't cause any difference in rage gained).
In 5mans this is easy since the def cap is lower so changing one item will probably mean you are still over the cap (535). Another benefit is that your dps will be slightly higher which will result in faster "farming".
When you are running older content raids in WotLK this can be slighty harder to achieve because you should stay above the defense cap (540). But not every tanking item has defense rating (e.g. t10 chest, pillars) + the defense you gain from items will put you over the cap easily (remember, you should not gem/enchant for defense rating if you are over the cap without it), so this can be solved as well (you can also put a def rating enchant to an older - not used - dps/pvp item),

When this is not possible or when progress raiding will mean content "farming" focused rage is really useful, and you can use something like this spec:

iron will is filler talent u could put those 3 tp's anywhere it wouldnt change a single thing
rage issue? u wot? u can rage starve even if u go with full dps gear ( a.k.a. pvp prot gear) while maintanking

Well putting those 3 "filler" points to Deep Wounds would change some things: more dmg = more threat at the cost of 0 rage.
Can you please give me an example of rage starving when you are progress raiding as an MT + you have the ability to control your Heroic Strikes?

this is what i am using now ( i have hit 80 after that post xD )

and this may sound dumb.. but i though rage was generated when you successfully "hit" the target.. and not from blocking it.

    guess i'l have to respec

    Rage is generated:
    - by successful autoattack swings ('white' damage) that damage an opponent
    - whenever you receive damage from an opponent (not environmental damage)
Important note: Absorbed damage DO generate rage!
    - by special abilities/items --> as a prot warrior: Charge, Bloodrage, Shield Spec, Berserker Rage

More details about rage can be found here:
    http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Rage

As a fresh 80 tank I would use the following talents for emblem farming:
    http://wotlk.openwow.com/talent#LAM00fZhZVItrx0zidfzsGo

    - Improved HS:
HS is a really good threat generator but use it with care to avoid rage starving, making it cheaper means more threat/rage

    - Improved Charge:
It is essential to build up your threat at the beginning of a fight! If you intend to have Impale + DW this talent is more useful than Iron Will.

    - Improved Disciplines:
Can be skipped because you won't really need to increase the frequency of your CDs while doing 5mans.

    - Focused Rage:
More rage = more threat = more possible DPS (from you and from your party) --> faster farming

    Some additional advice:
    - use cheap consumables to increase your stamina (e.g. food, runescroll)
    - reach 535 defense (your HP is low so a crit from a special ability can kill you easily)
    - Note: crafted BS items have many defense rating + stamina
    - hit and expertise is important to keep aggro
    - JC: stamina trinkets are really great
    - cheap gems/enchants >> no gems/enchants
    - cheap blues with def+stamina >> green items

  13. ye, and u have around -5% chance to crit against boss, since its level 83 mob
