1. Special Characters in Names

    Hello Warmane community.

Can we have special character symbols in names?

I know Warmane is trying to be Blizzlike as possible, in retail you can often meet players with names having special characters.

For example Criically (normal) and CriticÁlly (Special)
    Yenix and Ýenix.

You get the idea, my suggestion is having this enabled, i know it has some cons and pros.

  2. What do you mean trying to be blizzlike as possible. i had character with à and/or other special characters in my name on retail in wotlk. even in tbc they allowed that. :)

I mean it to be like retail, in there you can create a character with specific name symbols, but here in Icecrown you can't. Which is why i made this thread.

  4. There are a variety of reasons why we don't do this. One of the biggest concerns is simply that we do not have logs, which can make it troublesome for a GM to track down players with these characters in their names.

    That's one of the cons.
It's also good because it gives more choices on names, for example if your name Mercy is taken you could use MercÝ or Mércy.

Also it's fully blizz-like. As i said, there are pros and cons.

About tracking down players doesn't have to be extremely hard while this feature is enabled, i mean there are guides like this on how to type these symbols fast, like holding down left ALT key and typing 160 from the numpad and you get the character á

  6. You're missing the point that it simply adds too much hassle to GMs, only for the sake of having multiple versions of the same exact name available.
The player "pros" are far, far outweighed by the Staff "cons."

Updated my previous comment, i want it because of it being Blizzlike and i want my names back, but can't have them because somebody else took them or worse, i got myself a character re-name, thinking that those symbols we're working, but they didn't and now i can't even go back to my name, only if i can think of other name, which is bad for me, because there are few names suitable for me, and they are unavailable now, due to character re-name feature and other people taking them. I bet there are other people that want those symbols being enabled as well. Maybe we could pick up a vote, you decide.

  8. We've dropped the whole "Blizz-like" thing long ago. The fact it's like that on retail won't make us add that hassle to our GMs.
This isn't a matter of popularity, so votes or however many players might want it isn't a deciding factor. Our database and everything that uses it is already built on the decision of not allowing special characters in character names.

  9. Special characters on names makes writing whispers and grouping people a problem due to the non native nature of the symbols; It's creating a problem where there is none. (My guess, it is also part of the reason why Warmane has never allowed special characters/symbols in names, aside of the aforementioned GM reason).

As for the naming, well that's just how it works, first come first served (Not ideal, but that's how it works almost in every single MMO)

Also, if you got a name change, and the name you wanted was taken, you should probably have checked beforehand by creating a new char (and then deleting it) with the desired name... And if your old name got taken while you were thinking of a new name during the rename screen (sounds kinda impossible, but i'm not sure how the name change works) you should contact the staff about what can be done to for you.

As for it being blizzlike, which is a term i see often thrown around, yes, it's blizzlike, not blizzclone, there will be differences here and there.

I understand, with this feature being disabled, it helps the staff members to locate players i get that. Which gets me to another topic to discuss. Let's say, my name isn't taken, because i'm using it. But i chose character re-name feature, pay with my loyalty points, get it to my character, and if the next name is unavailable or else. I don't have any choice, except to think of another new unused name, the game won't let me go back to my old name that i was using before i chose the character re-name feature. Is this a bug? Can i at least get my names back? Or i should make another thread in the Support section instead?

  11. I have no idea if that's a bug or intentional, you'd need Edifice to answer that.
I will say, though, that getting a name change with free points before even checking if the name you want to change to is available sounds like lack of forethought to me.

Honestly said, i always check in the armory for names before i change, but i didn't know that the special characters are disabled, which screwed me up, is there a way to cancel the character re-name feature?

(I think i found new suitable name for me, for now i just want to know if there's a way to cancel this feature after being activated, with or without points going back to account. Just in case if someday i make a mistake and accidentally use it) - Just saying.
