1. Trinket question

I am curious , playing pvp on my hunter alt for some time now and slowly gear is coming bit from arena and bit frome pve plus a donation from time to time. Anyways to get to the point im wondering about trinkets. Most if not all hunt have sts hc , My question is what about wfs hc. Why is sts better then whispering ganged skull hc.
I know arpn only benefits auto shoots, aimed and steady and nothing else althou i might be wrong. But the crit that is almost 150 from wfs benefits most if not every single ability of the hunt and as i saw scales extremely gr8.
So what is the thing with sts. I mean my guess is in the end we get rly alot crit just from gear and the extra isnt so beneficial like maybe that extra arpn plus few hundret more attack power that sts has over wfs.
Really curious to hear some toughts about this.

This is the general "Stat X affects only spell A whereas Stat Y affects spells B and C so why isn't stat Y better." question, and so it has the same standard answer.

The degree to which the benefit from Arp increases your DPS, even after factoring in that it affects only a limited number of your spells, significantly eclipses the degree to which Crit increases your DPS. How this stuff is determined is by complex number crunching performed by spreadsheets so as to determine what's known as Stat Weights - the importance of various stats relative to each other. Making decisions on which item might be better for you based on intuition often leads to a lot of zany and plain incorrect speculation. Stat weights help you make a much informed choice.

These stat weights are a good place to start (for PVE):

Arp: 1.49 (when at 1200 Arp)
    Agi: 1
    Crit: 0.91
    Scope Damage: 0.64
    Intellect: 0.46
    Haste: 0.42
    Ranged Attack Power: 0.39

To answer your main question, yes, STS is better than WFS by a crushing margin, especially while you're still gearing up and collecting all the Arp you can get.

  3. Yes in pve its not a question what is better , but i mean in pvp maybe i didnt make myself clear there sorry for that. For example in pvp i have atm 124(5.64%) arpn il get pve cloak which is +50 so in the end it wont be rly alot arpn in total. So thats why i ask , cause at lower lvls it isnt so gr8 as in high lvls and especialy in pvp. So in the end i guess sts prevail cause the 222 ap diff btw wfs?

  4. To answer your question, at lower gear I suggest you roll with something like Death's Verdict or WFS. It really depends on how much Attack Power/Crit/ArP you have when it comes to stats balancing. Auto shots make up the highest percentage of your damage and it is important that you get them off as much as possible by pausing briefly for every shot timer if you're kiting. However in the long run, STS will be the trinket you'll end up using at you get more gear so if you want to save yourself the hassle of farming it later then perhaps you should get it now. If you're getting it with coins then you should prioritise the BiS Crossbow and Polearm first before anything else.

With the same concept that Darkenedhue said,
If your attack power is low, the value of crit is obviously going to be less than if it were higher, even though Hunters have extremely good crit modifiers. When you already have a good amount of Attack power, then crit's value is worth more. Reason why you see so many STS hunters is because of the proc as well as the passive ArP scaling better when you have higher gear. It's mediocre at lower gears since what you want to aim for at low gear is Attack power and Crit. Also some hunters hop into the bandwagon that highest gs trinket = best which is not true at starter gear.

In endgame BiS gear, gemmed and enchanted, you can have 56% ArP, over 6.4k Attack power, close to 60% crit and 1000+ Resilience. In my opinion PvP offpieces are somewhat okay but if you want to get the most out of stat budgeting then I suggest you go with PvE offpieces gemmed with resilience. Generally you want every item you have to give you some sort of agility; especially Cloak, Neck and Ring since PvP offpieces only offer Attack power and crit and will severely hinder your crit %. To make up for the resilience just Gem it.

I'm almost complete with my dream set in PvP (Pvers aren't happy when I roll on a piece of gear I already have for gemming PvP), but I will definitely have 56% ArP, ~6600 Attack power, ~60% crit and 1000 Resilience.

Although you can never really have too much crit (unless you're like 100% lol which is never going to happen), the difference between STS and WFS in endgame gear is highly noticeable. You will still crit a majority of your shots, except with STS you have quite a bit more stopping power when it procs.
