If you are talking about Blizzard you can pay them instead and play on their servers. But then they choose what expansion you play. How did you even get here if that surprises you?
Servers and staff members cost money. As far as I know all staff members are getting paid since it's their job. And at least for developers it's mostly full time job. So it's also their own work that they are making money from.
And isn't complaining about queues and donations in 1 thread enough? Why in 3 different threads?
