I know in TBC you had to be a certain rating to obtain certain pieces of gear. People in my guild were saying that this was not the case for season one, and anybody could purchase the gear if they had enough arena points regardless of their rating.
Guildies said that the rating requirement would be implemented in season 2, so that would mean that everybody gets it easily now and people next season that didn't get it previously need high rating in order to get what was handed to other players.
I want to know if this is true, do you not need a rating requirement for PVP items unlike how it was in TBC?

As I remember it, though I could be wrong on season 1, you needed rating for whatever the current season was, and the previous season(s) became available for reduced requirements. In other words, season 1 offered season 1 gear (T4 look alike) for rating and blue gear for honor, season 2 offered T5 lookalike for rating and T4 look alike (season 1) gear for honor, season 3 offered T6 look alike with rating, T5 look alike for reduced rating, and T4 for honor, and finally season 4 offered sunwell (T6.5?) look alike for rating, T6 for reduced rating, and T5 for honor.
I seem to recall that even at the end of the expansion, the best you could buy WITHOUT rating was T5 look a like. I only recently started playing on the server, and haven't done any end game stuff yet to confirm, but that's the best of my recollection. I think the reduced rating requirements went from around 1500-1750 or so for the 2nd best season, while the best stuff was available to ppl with 1800-2200.

make rating requirements for S1-S4 for god sake , thats the whole idea of competitive arenas.
