The damage of a ret paladin is mostly defined by your ability to keep your Seal of Vengeance/Corruption stacked to 5 on PP. The more often you lose your stacks on PP the lower your DPS will be. Only leave PP melee range after your stacks got refreshed. This also means getting kicked only once by the green ooze and having people kite the red ooze towards PP.
It's also a good practice to save certain instant spells (Sacred Shield, Plea, Art of War proc) for movement situations to minimize downtime while moving.
Might be worth mentioning that depending on your guilds tactic and the raid DPS, it probably is just impossible to do good damage as a ret. For example, if Oozes live rather long or you have to stack in the middle of nowhere.
