WotLK New to Warmane - prob launching WOTLK (old)

Hey all! I am new to the world of private servers having finally decided to give up on blizzard who keep changing things.

I downloaded the WOTLK (old) expansion yesterday wanting to avoid the new models, when launching the .exe I get to the login screen, enter my password and then it says something about downloading a patch. It stays stuck a 0%, tells me to click on the "restart" button in order to install the patch, but when doing so the next pop up tells me "Failed to apply patch, please try again later. May need to reinstall"

Any tips on how to proceed? and sub-question, is it possible to play the non-old version of WOTLK offered on this site and still get the old looking char models? (I hate the look of the new ones)
