Technical Recently deleted character still exists

I recently deleted a level 1 character I had created as a placeholder for when I could create a Death Knight. Once I got another character to level 55, I deleted the level 1 placeholder character and tried to create a DK using the same name, but it said the name was unavailable.

I searched through the forums and saw other people with the same issue. Those posts all said to just wait for a server restart so that the deleted characters would be removed. In the time since deleting my character, the server has crashed at least twice and was offline for 4 hours for maintenance. When I try to create my new character, it still tells me that the name is taken. If I search in the Armory, I still see my level 1 character.

Is there a way to have deleted characters cleared out so we can reuse the names? If I go to the Create Support Ticket page, I'm unable to create a ticket unless I'm appealing a ban. I don't know how else to contact the support team.

It's bugged atm and you have to wait, til the bug will be fixed. A char restoration doesn't work for level 1 toons and a ticket in the acc panel could only be written if you donated 1x/10$ to reach premium state (except Ban appeals)

My experience: I had the same issue on 2 other servers. After deleting 2 chars, a bug created level 1 chars with the same name just in the moment after deleting them. The names were used, a restart of the server didn't help and support thinks that I never had these chars on my acc. I never got a clear answer why such chars were created and if the proplem persists.

Make your conclusion. You could alternatively write a ticket ingame for a clear answer by gms.
