WotLK Name unavailable even after restart

Hello,

I created a character and then remade him with the same name, and like tons of other people on here I got "that name is unavailable."
Because every thread said to wait for a server crash/restart, I kept my eye on the server status page until I saw Lordaeron had restarted, but I'm still getting the message. Armory says the name isn't taken.
Any ideas?

they've changed it. names are now stored for 30 days.

Thanks for the reply. So you should not try deleting and remaking characters at all now?
