WotLK Warlock Imp not attacking

So i just started a Warlock and found out my imp doesnt auto-attack or cast fireball unless i click on it manually. I found a report on the bug tracker

Since the bug is dismissed and has been frequently for the past 4 years i assume this wont be fixed anytime soon. Have anyone found a workaround with a macro or do i have to delete my warlock?

Make a macro. /petattack /cast shadowbolt

Does not work, he just run upto the mob and stands there with a silly look on his face

Right click the imps fire ball so it turns on the auto cast. The icons border should start glow. If that dosent work maybe your imp is out of mana. Macro this.
