usually it means you have "need" an item on RDf that you should have not.
If you are innocent:

it may take more than 5 days to get a reply
i was banned too for no reason NEEDING items for off-spec when everybody pres GREED is totaly fine i dont understand this rules.
Just because you think it's fine doesn't mean everyone else agrees. These rules were made to combat the rampant "need for os" when people just wanted a few extra goldpieces, basically rolled need on everything due to playing a hybridclass, etc.
In short: Can't have nice things because people abused it. That's pretty much all there is to say.
Need is only for main spec. If you need the item for offspec, selling, disenchanting or any other reason, you have to press greed. By pressing need when others press greed, you are taking the item for yourself even though you had no priority over them (according to the rules) and were supposed to roll for the item together with them.
The best answer I found to this issue is just offering to buy it from the guy who won the greed roll.
The issues with this answer is when people roll DE, or when people don't speak english (which surprisingly is way more common from the first issue).
Either way, if it's leveling RDF, most likely theres no reason to roll on items which are not for your MS, and if it's RHC - unless you are gearing up through FOSPOSHOR - rolling for your OS doesn't worth the risk. you can always ask at the start of the run if you can roll as another spec, but that's work only if EVERYONE agrees.
4/4 other members have to explicitly agree. Even if 1 says nothing, or says 'no', you'll be considered ninja, if you NEED roll for OS.
"Nobody else needed, they greeded" is never agreen light for you to roll NEED for OS. You never know if somebody GREED for their OS, so why should you NEED? That wouldn't be fair, now would it?
guys it doesnt make any sense. If everybody greeds it means they dont want use this item ( or they are scared cause it is banneble ) on any spec. I play wow for 15 years and i never heard about this rule. Wow is about comunication about helping each other not about steeling gear.
Example of my story: 5hc man last boss dropped tank weapon ( our tankfully geared ) i am warrion others 3 cloth guys. Tell me only one reason why i cant need this item for my off-spec and let this item to priest for disench ?
I am disappointed there isnt presumption of innocence somebody can report you cause he cant hold his horses- Result: banned for 5 days and if you try to communicate with GMs there is no chance. I read about tickets there is a waiting list for process more than 5 days.....
ITS A TRAP
Or they know the rules and are following them.
Because the rules say so: http://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=325598
Because of this rule, offspec has the same priority as selling or disenchanting the item so you get to roll for it with everyone else. What qualifies as ninja?
...
- In RDF needing on items for OS (unless everyone in party is explictly fine with this).
You weren't innocent. You broke a server rule and got due punishment for it, end of story.
The rule doesn't requires you to agree with it or consider that it "makes sense," just that you follow it. Or don't, and you know what will happen.
What if your main spec is dps and you need on said dps item and bacuse you got selected as healer in RDF and needed dps item is that really ninja looting, so because I fill the spot needed as healing I CAN NOT NEED ON ITEMS I NEED FOR MY SPEC ?????
If you joined as healer, that's considered your main spec for loot purposes during the dungeon. If you press need on items for another spec, you can get banned for ninja looting. If you want to press need on DPS items, you have to join the dungeon as DPS.
Time and time again yall's greed is mind boggling. The game, the way it's meant to be played, revolves around having a certain amount of roles in a group to complete an instance and get loot as a reward. Imagine 5 people rolling on tank gear because "mY pRimArY sPeC iS tAnK". That's nonsense! Rules are made to be able to draw a clear line between fair rolling and ninjalooting. How the F should I know, as the actual tank in the group, that when you're rolling on my gear(in the specific instance) you're gonna be tanking in the future? You're not wearing any tank gear at the moment, you don't even have properly set up tank talents visible on the armory, you're queuing as dps. How can people draw the line and say "yes, it's ok" or "no, he's ninjalooting"? This is why you only Need on items according to YOUR ROLE IN THE GROUP! Main spec changes in raids are a case-specific arrangement which the raid leader looks after.
Side note: there's a certain private server with a very ******ed ninjalooting policy, which states that in a dungeon you can roll on whatever spec you consider primary. So in that case, when I'm queuing as tank, everyone is rolling my gear, yet they never queue as tanks, and when I get a higher tier dungeon, GET THIS, I CAN'T TANK IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T ACTUALLY GET ANY GEAR FROM THE PREVIOUS ONES! But wait, here comes that genius damage-racing-the-tank dps that says "omg tank is paper". No s**t I'm paper when everyone else steals my gear and never uses it! Sounds "fair", doesn't it?
This is why the rules on warmane are what they are! Like it or not(wonder why...) in 99% of cases warmane ninjalooting policy is a very easy set of rules which you either follow or break and get suspended.
Here's a breakdown on what you SHOULD be doing:
- First of all - NO, Lockboxes ARE NOT a freaking main spec item! Being able to open them doesn't make them "main spec item" for you, period! Why? Think hard - what are Lockboxes and what do they contain. Now compare the Lockbox to a specific piece of clothing/weaponry in the loot table and there's your answer.
- Second - NO, saying "ms X" as soon as you join a group doesn't mean you can roll on X role-appropriate items! That's called being a douche bag. Possible results:
a) someone leaves and you spend 5 seconds/15 minutes(depending on role) looking for replacement
b) everyone keeps silent and they report you as soon as you make the wrong move, because, get this, SOMEONE/EVERYONE IS NOT OK WITH ENTITLEMENT!
c) you just get kicked yourself
- You joined a party as an X role - you roll Need on X role-appropriate items! Everything else - you EXPLICITLY ASK the other members if they're ok with you rolling for it, OR you could simply ask the person who wins the Greed roll if you can have the item or not.
- You joined a party as X role but there's no upgrades for your main spec - you roll Greed on everything you would like to get, becasue, get this:
a) other people may need the gear for the same role
b) everyone has equal right to Greed for sale / Disenchant for materials
c) you're not entitled to ANYTHING, just because you're "filling a role"
- You join a raid group as X class/spec:
a) you wait for THE ACTUAL F*****G RAID LEADER to state if he/she is allowing ms changes or not.(the amount of times people join a raid of mine and instantly want to change MS when I have no intention of allowing it makes me want to choke them)
b) assuming "NO MS CHANGES" - you play the game as whatever class/spec you joined
c) assuming "NO MS CHANGES" - don't waste yours and the raid leader's time and just leave(or at least say "sorry, i leave because xyz" ), instead of being a Karen and causing drama for no reason
Other people Greeding on an item you could use for offspec, doesn't mean it's ok to Need on it - selling items to the vendor or on auction house is EVERYONE'S right, as long as they are not ninjalooting it from someone.
Filling a role(mostly tank or heal) doesn't mean you get to roll on whatever you want. You wanted the queue to pop faster - you picked tank/heal, now deal with it. If you want gear for your other spec, queue as that role or don't be an anti-social douche and ask people a simple question - "Can I have this?".
Being a high geared / important role party member doesn't suddenly make you the F-ing president - skipping 30 seconds boss fights because they're "a waste of time"(funny term in world of warcraft) is nonsensical! People either need the gear or they need the emblems. And NO, FoS/PoS farming isn't faster/better, period!
I've been following this simple mindset on Lordaeron back when there was no RDF enabled, I've been doing it since 2017 on Icecrown. I have NEVER been banned - not for ninjalooting, not for any other reason in the rules! And trust me, I've had a boatload of people PROMISING me I'll get banned for this or that - I'm yet to see at least ONE of those promises be kept.
So why can't you all just Need on main spec(your role in the group) and Greed on offspec/"goldspec"?
Just as someone stated above(i'm too lazy to scroll) - we can't have nice things because people keep exploiting whatever they can. Simple.
