I only just learned that I need to keep using Northrend Inscription Research to obtain better glyph recipes. And have been doing it daily for the past few days. However, the wiki (https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Nor...ption_Research), and the description in game both say that it's 'likely' to grant a new recipe.
But exactly how likely is it? Because I must have used the spell about 6-8 times and never have I got a new glyph recipe. I always get scrolls or vellums.
Am I just incredibly unlucky?, or is there something I'm missing about getting glyphs.
Just to confirm, I'm wanting the big boy glyphs: Glyph of Conflagrate and Glyph of Living Bomb; that kind of thing. The glyphs that people actually need.

I'm not sure about %, but I unlocked everything within some 2 months.
Not sure if "discovered" recipes are just random from what you are missing or specific set(like Book of glyph mastery). But I guess smart would be to learn everything, use all of those mastery books(so the game says "cant learn anything from that") and then just do research every day.

Thanks, I didn't even know about Books of Glyph Mastery. I just bought some from the AH and I got 'Glyph of Shadowflame' which I know is a glyph needed for PvP warlocks, so I'm making progress.
I guess I'm just unlucky then with regards to research. I will keep trying every day and see what happens.

UPDATE:
I've been using Northrend Research daily and paying close attention. I have concluded that you only discover new recipes that you could otherwise train at the Grandmaster Inscription Trainer. Once all these are learned, I believe Northrend Research has no benefit. I have tried between 15 and 20 times and have never learned a new glyph recipe.
However, like suggested, learning from books of glyph mastery has allowed me to learn the glyphs that I required. I know have Glyph of Living Bomb among other desirable recipes.

There are glyphs that you can learn from books or glyphs that you learn from discovery.
You will never get a glyph when doing discovery, you get vellums and scrolls, but pay closer attention to chat, it will say something like
"You have learned how to create a new item: Glyph of Something"
"You create: 3x[Scroll of Junk]"
