So I've raided very little on both Icecrown and Frostmourne so far since I mainly play TBC Classic with the idea of playing Wrath Classic later on.
I was wondering what kind of loot systems guilds & pugs use on the Warmane realms in general?
In TBC Classic the most popular ones are for guilds: DKP/LootCouncil - And for pugs it's mainly the "new to me" system called softres where you limit the amount of people rolling for certain items. I do not like this system even though it's pretty good when trying to go for certain items.
I very much miss the old standard MS/OS raids where you are guaranteed to roll on any item dropping for your MS so wanted to hear if those still exist.
Warmane is a bad example to take for loot distribution if you plan on classic wrath. The greed is very rampant and most of the time anything of value is reserved. Trinkets? Reserved. X Weapon? Reserved. Trash items during a rep farm? Reserved.
Why? Because it's hard work to fire up autoflood and basically be a bot for advertising your raid while semi-afk. Can't even be bothered to make at least a temporary discord server instead of using broken engrish macros to communicate. Oh,and ofc requesting so much gear that you practically won't need anything from the raid i you're accepted.
Classic will have that as well to a minor extent(i'm 100% sure one of the first addons to be backported will be gearscore,bc not even tbc realms could escape using that ****). However, unlike what you see here, reserved item raids will be a minority.
Now,as for classic wrath, most of the time you'll probably meet gdkp besides ye olde roll system(for pugs). Gdkp works just like dkp, except you bid with your gold instead of dkp(and the pot gets distributed after the raid between members). Gdkp doesn't work here(also requires a lead that can be trusted) for various reasons, but it's still very popular on tbc.
Guilds will stick to the usual dkp/lc/epgp systems.
As for what is used on warmane:
Pugs: roll system with usually bis prio, however this changes from group to group. Usually you can change your MS before the raid begins.
Guilds: dkp/lc/epgp.
Guilds:
- DKP
- Loot council
- Need before greed (MS > OS)
Depending on guild specific rulings, DKP and Loot council can be both good, or bad. NBG is chaos.
PUGS:
- Need before greed (MS > OS)
- Reserves (BoE, pattern, crafting materials, specific items)
PUG loot rules are always more or less "liberal" on who can roll for what. e.g. Retri paladin can roll https://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=50688 from Festergut the same as hunters (and enha shamans).
Sometimes they are more conservative (plate can't roll mail/leather/cloth or spirit is only for healers, or leather is prio for druids and rogues).
Usually/sometimes leaders have unmentioned priorities, causing them to get banned for ninja looting if these priorities (loot rules) aren't stated before the raid stars.
What are these priorities? Using https://wotlk.cavernoftime.com/item=50688 from Festergut as an example. Some leaders would prio it to hunters as it's their BiS. What if a retri paladin wins the roll? Retri paladins benefits from that belt, but it's not their BiS (iirc, could be wrong, but either way), but on the other hand, it's BiS for hunter.
Depending on loot rules told by RL, one of the two things will happen (if priority wasn't part of loot rules): 1. Hunter will be pissed as it goes to higher roll paladin. 2. RL gets reported (and banned) as paladin won the roll, but it was given to hunter due to "prio".
So make sure you understand loot rules for the specific raid you join, ask for clarifications -> screenshot answers.
What qualifies as ninja?
- Master Looter taking items that were not reserved or giving them to players that did not win, unless it's 2nd highest roll when winner had no use for the item (rogue rolling on caster trinket).
