As the title says, I can't decide between Warlock and Mage
I love them, but my play time is limited and I can only afford 1 character otherwise I would clearly level / gear them both.
I play mage+lock in TBC so I don't have much experience with them on WOTLK keep in mind the following:
- I'm interested only in PVE
- I want to have spot in raids/heroics/guilds
- I want to be top on meters

I'd go with Warlock unless you want to spam only one skill on bosses.

- Both are good in PvE
- One Demonology Warlock is always needed (25's), and there's not too many of them. Though Mages are desired for their DPS (10/25).
- Mage
I don't know how many times I've tried Demonology Warlock, but I always end up selling them. It's just so boring. Mage has slightly more interesting rotation, and the big numbers gives you dopamine hits.

if you want to top the meters then go mage, demo lock is not the class for that and you shouldn't play affli or destro if you want raid spots

im sorry but how mage has more interesting rotation? all you do is pop Mirror Image, use living bomb and spam fireball until pyroblast procs. If he wants good damage numbers while doing nothing, go mage. Demo is bit more challenging if he wants more dps

Depends which server you're playing. If you're playing early tier content in Frostmourne the story is much different. Affliction warlock performs better in early content meanwhile mage is not as good and is usually arcane

A troll mage with engineering plus powered infusion buff is quite fun. You can spam a lot of stuff very quickly. Bonus points if you pull aggro and get yelled at by tank.

Hmm intresting, I'm amazed how many people discuss mostly about Fire/Demo, however I think Arcane and Affliction are at least 50% of the expansion.
I personally love the rotations of all specs as I like the dot tracking but also the Proc based specs so rotation is not the problem.

I'd say start with a warlock and make a mage alt.
Warlock are more desired and will get a raid spot easier.

Why hardly anybody mentions Affliction? Because for most it's secondary. 1st Warlock in the raid is always expected to be Demonology with their big SP buff. Any other Warlock can be either Affliction, or even Destruction in some cases. Though it usually taken by other classes.
Arcane is "good" for lower gear, but it's soon left behind in DPS. Also the rotation is the most dull of all the options OP asked of. Who wants Gunship Battle cannon duty as their full-time rotation?
Why Fire Mage's rotation is slightly more interesting? Boils down to personal preference. Scorch, if you have to; Living Bomb every 12s; Fireball spam; Pyroblast on proc; refresh Scorch & Living Bomb when needed.
Why Demonology isn't as interesting as Fire Mage? Keep Curse of X up; Keep Immolation and Corruption up; Shadow Bolt spam; Incinerate x 3 if Molten Core proc when >35% boss HP (if I recall correctly); Soul Fire spam when <35% on boss HP. Immolation Aura optional during Metamorphosis (requires you to be close to the enemy).
Demonology has more to do? Sure, but it still feels boring. Pyroblast procs actually feels more impactful, unlike Molten Core on Warlock.

Well yeah, but most guilds goes for better raid composition, demo lock brings spell power buff, affliction brings only intellect buff which is inferior to mages intellect buff.
How isnt dull spamming three buttons all the time? Also scorch isnt necessary until late fight because Warlock will keep crit debuff with shadow bolt
