same thing happened to me. I haven't logged in since June or so and got no emails notifications when the hacker bought gold and messed with the google auth.
whoever he sold my paladin to is playing it everyday...

Only email notifications you get is if your account's security is in question. Buying gold, using trade won't give you notifications as they aren't really account security issues.
You should see who the coins from trade were sent to, staff might be interested of that (if it really seems somebody else got hold of your account, and "damaged" it. What happens with your account is still your responsibility). Though it won't get your character back.

I sent them a ticket because they probably should be interested in it because why would they use hacked accounts to buy gold unless they are using stolen CCs?

Fraudulent charge, charge back would get your account banned (I think). Since this isn't the case, I doubt there's IRL money involved.
How do you know they bought gold? I'm guessing via trade history? If they sold your character, bought gold from trade, potentially from their (dummy) account. Then sending the gold back to their own hands. Would look somewhat legit trade without deeper investigation.
If you've ever shared your account info, you know who the culprit is. Unless you fell for a phishing scam.
