1. Is Affliction Warlock better than Shadow priest for PvP?

I have a priest, it's half wrathful half relentless with heroic dying light. My take is. spriest wears satin, can kill 2 people quick, but oom and need to drink before the 3rd enemy comes. If I wear mooncloth, I can kill 4 people but if one of them has high pressure then I'm dead, because I wear mooncloth.

Affliction warlocks I see roll with sky-high resilience and only has 1 gearset. With spriest there is always the satin or mooncloth, or 2 satin 2 mooncloth dilemma especially if they want high resilience too. Affli locks deal similar dots to spriest, and from the looks of it....no mana problems???

The only drawback I can see from just fighting them is how they have pets which can be killed, whereas spriests can do the abilities warlock pets can so it's safer that way.

What do you think, spriest and/or warlock users?

  2. Regarding pvp, Shadowpriest is better than Affliction in everything, except 3s.

  3. You should make a list of pros and cons that you see. You don't tell us what you call pvp (world pvp? bgs? arenas?)

I also agree that spriest is better than affli in practically all regards. Very good defensives, you can heal, you can dispel. Unfortunately mana problems are real.

  4. Pros of Shadow:
    - more damage, has more burst
    - more heals, can refull himself and other people, can abuse los greatly
    - way better and spammable dispel than warlock's pet
    - better defensives in spammable shield, dispersion as emergency button
    - better aoe damage with mind sear
    - better mana burn
    - can disarm
    - can levitate

    Pros of Affliction:
    - more mana with life tap, can go on forever hypothetically
    - can put a better pression on healers/dispellers thanks to unstable affliction, (ence why it's better in 3s)
    - can still silence and dispel while cced if pet is free (ence why it's better in 3s)
    - can teleport within portals
    - stronger execute phase

Overall, shadow is better in 1v1, world pvp, and bgs. Affliction is better only in the niche of 3s/soloq.

  5. Very good rundown, which I'd like to expand based on my bg experience:

    * Shadow's dispel is so much better, but on the other hand your pet dispelling you is a great advantage in some some situations (silence, stun, fear, chains of ice, etc). Also, pray to the rng gods (sorta like tranquilizing shot)
    * Shadow's mana problems can be severe depending on your gear and talent build. Obviously not a problem for a warlock.
    * Fear is very good, but useless against certain classes (DKs, warriors, cats). In fact, affli is probably the most useless spec against DKs (not that shadow is much better), and DKs abound. A DK with half a brain will wipe the floor with you while you cry for your mama.
    * Portals are good in theory, and bad in practice, especially as emergency buttons. You have to put it down every time you dismount, then pray it remains in a good position as the fight advances, then pray you aren't too close or too far, and then pray you aren't silenced or stunned when you need to use it. I don't need to tell you how it compares to Dispersion.
    * Spell Lock is better than Silence. That, combined with UA, puts a lot more pressure on healers.
    * For stealthers, affli has Rain of Fire, although it's slow (2 sec until the first tick, unlike Volley or Blizzard with 1 sec). Shadow only has Mass Dispel and Holy Nova which aren't as good.
    * Affli heals much more from dots. Corruption is cheap and very spammable. (inb4: "I'll tell you what's spammable: Flash Heal!!")

  6. Hi all thanks for the replies! Alright so what I meant for PvP is actually in general all types of pvp including arenas. Those quick games where mana shouldn't be a problem even wearing satin, can often turn into scrambling for mana if it lasts a little too long.

And what I've (amateurly) seen is similar to what people have already said, but anyway these are just the things I envy about affli locks:

    Spriests can:
    - Do all abilities lock pets can, so it's safer in a way that I don't have to worry about being useless when my pet is dead.
    - Spam heal
    - Being able to heal makes it easier for when my targets are in "invincible" mode like enraged, berserk, lichborne, free action pot, dispersed, and so on.
    - Mass dispel OP

    Affli locks can:
    - get way more HP from their dots
    - corruption is cheap so spreading it across many targets lead to soooo much self heals (and therefore mana)
    - not have to worry about gearset confusion since they only have 1 pvp gearset. Priests have 2.
    - Even with a simpler gearset, affli locks can still easily have more crit % & resi than spriests, and still without the mana issues.
    - drain HP & mana is channeled so pillaring won't break it, unlike mana burn which is casted
    - Seduction OP

  7. "2 sets" is not really a problem, you get one, whichever you want. imo you should get mooncloth as satin is bound to be a problem in arenas if the match lasts too long. If you plan on doing arenas you shouldn't do the 2+2 thing because you will miss the shorter Weakened Soul effect and that's kinda good.

You can heal, but you generally can't outheal an enemy who is focused on you.

I haven't checked, but I think affli does less dps than shadow.

Affli is much tankier btw, you have several talents in demonology that you'll take that increase your health substantially + Soul Link.
