1. Instant 80 and other options

    Hey all,

Newer player here, old school classic PVPer. Learning a lot since I've started leveling my character and had some questions. Tried finding the answers through search, but couldnt find what I was looking for.

Looking for advice for someone who wants to get to 80 and get PVP gear to casually PVP.

Which is the best route to take to achieve this?

    1. Instant 80 purchase and then get gear through dungeons? (heard this isnt the best, since green gear doesnt allow you in, but I also dont know the instant 80 starter pack gear)

    2. Instant 80 + purchase gear

    3. Purchase an already geared character through the trade

Any insight is appreciated! Looking forward to PVPing with everyone!

  2. If you want to PvP, just go to Blackrock. It is instant lvl 80 realm where you get free set of "starting" PvP gear and can get access to better one by playing BGs and arenas (including gear from raids).
But if you want to experience PvE part too, you can either create character on Icecrown (leveling on x7 XP rate is very fast, no need to go for instant level option from Service) or go to Lordaeron and buy lvl 80 character there (will have BoEs, professions, mounts etc) for 10 more coins, which majority of people prefer to do

  3. Coins, play time availability and how soon u want to start to pvping determine the answer for the best way to do it, so its different for every person.

but even if i have enough coins to fully gear a character, i'd start with figuring the right class to main first before i actually investing some coins on it, cz i dont like the feeling when i invested coins on a class but then turns out another class is more fun to play, and end up rarely play with the coin-invested character.
now lets say i decided the class, and since u mentioned already leveling and 80 purchase options then u're playing on icecrown realm, i'd still eliminate buying instant 80 option and just level it up to 80 myself cz its really fast to level there, and only spend coins on items that the least likely i can get easily by casual raiding/arena cz some bis items for pvp are kinda easy to get if u're playing with friends/guild and i kinda enjoy the progress of getting upgrades on some of my gears.
i know others might just wanna spend coins on already geared character with nice achievements and start swing with it right away. but lets say i have never done shadowmourne quest chain in my life, then i prefer take the time to do it and enjoy the process to progress than buy it from the shop/trade straightaway.
in the end its all about the fun while playing the game.

  4. Thanks for the insight!

I like the idea of Blackrock, but like Icecrown being an actual server to also do some dungeons. I know I want to stay there. I'm a level 54 now, but maybe I'm just bad, but leveling is taking me forever. I was advised to do dungeons, but the queue has been taking awhile to get leveled up. Feel like I've spent way more time than I should have so far on leveling lol.

Class-wise, I am definitely a rogue. That's my current character and almost all my previous have always been a rogue. Very comfortable with it.

My end goal is to primarily PVP in BG and world PVP, along with doing dungeons as well. Instant 80 was attractive, but my fear was not being able to get into dungeons to get better gear.

On Blackrock you can buy PvE gear with honor / arena points. If you're only planning on playing pvp, there's no reason to go Icecrown. Gearing there is way harder, and the gear you can buy even with just honor points is better than anything you'll get in normal dungeons.

no man, he said he wants to do wpvp aswell. he may have the same goal as i do, like to do every content casually like dungeons and probably some raids only for the sake of experiences/achievements but mainly focus at every pvp encounters like bg, arena, open world fvckery and ofc Wintergrasp which blackrock doesnt have.

u can do dungeons or rdf at low level as rogue but treat it as 'side gig', the main focus should be the yellow/red quests to level. since u're a pvp player then solo leveling as sub wont be a problem at all. focusing on dungeons to level only effective if u're a tank/healer. without friends/boost, focusing on questing is much better imo. besides when u hit 68 u will find northend quests are waay more effective than spamming dungeons.

if u see buying instant 80 worth the coins then buy it, as for gearing fresh 80 there are many guides online or post like this here : https://forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=426653 as reference.
but heres the way i do it as fresh naked 80 without spending any coins:
-take minning and herbalist, make a castsequence macro to track herb and minning nodes. farm them and sell them with undercut prices.
-use the gold to buy boes to fill all your gear slots with cheap 187ilvl or 200ilvl blues, u can buy caster gears aswell. the catch here is to gear it enough to do heroics asap with minimal gold spent. u can fill them with pvp gears with honor aswell by doing weekly quests at wg or do rbgs.
-do heroics to get some upgrades and emblems, u can continue mining/herbs to get the 264ilvl boes, in your case they are ikfirus chest piece, bladeborn leg, wodin's neck and footpad of impending death. its not necessary but great gearscore boost if u're planning to do raids. it will come in handy to boost your gearscore enough to atleast VOA where u can get pvp gears from. u can do icc rep farm too, if u need the 277 ashen ring it wont take much time anyway. but doing raid means u need to have pve talent, better to focus on having a pair 232ilvl daggers from fos pos and hor heroic, or nighttime axe from fos hc. u can use the hit and ap pvp trinkets (34k honor points each). or u can do toc 5 n trinket farm for banner, and/or use gold to buy darkmoon greatness trinket. i prefer buy the pvp ones cz less hassle and u wont do any serious raiding yet anyway.(P.S. u can sneak rowan riffle on your ranged slot to boost gs for voa req, its cheap!)
-after u get furious set gears and the rest pvp gears, u can decide whether u spend some coins for bis pieces or continue the grinds for upgrades with serious raidings/arenas.

Thank you so much for this and for taking the time to explain!

You're right, I love wpvp/arenas, etc, but I also enjoy doing PVE. I've done it all and am well versed in PVE, so I can hybrid play.

I just dont have the time to devote to leveling, even at 7x lol. I'm level 63 and feel like I should just instant 80, even though I'm so close hah. I really like the idea of onyxia, once its up and running, so I may do that, but, I also think I may just create a new rogue on icecrown and instant 80 that one and follow the guideline above you explained.
