1. [WOTLK] Getting Random Crash's in dalaran? come here.

if after downloading the new Wod model for WOD and crash a lot in dalaran or other zones, is because Wow can only use 2GB of Ram, but there a way to change that.

if you have 4 or more GB of ram, and a 64bit OS, You can make wow.exe use more memory hence fixing 90% of the crash's

Large Address Aware will do that for you, just download it, open it, Select Wow.exe, be sure the checkbox is checked and click Save. open your game and done.

  2. Sorry to revive this post but, I've tried it and it didn't work. I was having the following problem

"This application has encountered a critical error:

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

    Program: C:UsersUserDocumentsWorld of Warcraft 3.3.5a (no install)Wow.exe
    File: .Texture.cpp
    Line: 2057

    Requested XXXXXXX bytes of memory"

So... I've found a solution in case anyone ends up here just like me.

    1) Inside WoW type the following in the chat box:

    Code: Select all

    /console gxapi d3d9ex

This will change the graphics API to D3D9ex, (Some version of DirectX 9?)

note:there won't be any message in the chatbox to confirm the change

    2) Restart WoW and it should be fixed.

Now, instead of crashing I get some low FPS in dalaran but only on the Icecrown server or some crazy 25m/40m raid. I'm trying to find a solution for that too as I'm positive my rig can do much better.

  3. d3d9ex has severe performance problems with shadows. Have you tried disabling shadows?

Anyway, that memory error shouldn't occur. Maybe you have an old version of your drivers? Or a modified client?

Are you using dxvk? If not, use it.

You should use "Wotlk 3.3.5 - D3d9 converted to (Vulkan)" along with large adress aware instead, and make sure you edit the dxvk.conf file and type in your own graphics card's VRAM. If you still have issues after that its more than likely hardware related or something.

I was crashing sometimes in raids and since I got a new CPU and Mobo and SSD recently I haven't had a single crash yet with a bunch of custom patches installed.

  5. I'm having this issue as well due to HD texture pack. I'm not sure why and/or how to use DXVK. The confusion is why use this on windows since it is a compatibility layer for wine and windows apps on linux. Also if i do end up using it. would it affect other games I play. Also I have no idea how to go about installing it (in a way that it wopuld only apply to warmane WOW.

Can you give a step by step guide on how to do this? I also have this problem and it won't go away with any of 4GB and compatibility mode solutions.

    Fast guide to install dxvk:

    1) Go here: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases
    2) Download the latest version. In the section that says "Version x.x.x (Latest)", scroll to the end, and where it says "Assets", download the file called "dxvk-x.x.x.tar.gz".
    3) Open the file. If you can't, download an application like 7-Zip first. But I think recent versions of Windows do not require external applications to open .tar.gz files.
    4) Inside the file, navigate to the "x32" folder. Take the "d3d9.dll" file and copy it to the WoW folder. After you have copied it, the "d3d9.dll" file will be in the root of the WoW client folder alongside Wow.exe.
    5) Done.

I dont have "d3d9.dll" file in root of the WoW client folder.

Should I just paste it there?

Yes. I have clarified that part.

I installed DirectX and I have in my WoW folder d3d8.dll instead of d3d9.dll

d3d8.dll is the DLL file for Direct3D 8. WoW does not use Direct3D 8, so I don't know how you ended up with that file there; WoW will ignore it. The only file that you have to copy from the dxvk archive is d3d9.dll.

Thanks for the guide! I used the d3d9.dll file from the x32 folder and moved it into my WoW directory. Now I get an error when starting the game (before I even can enter login credentials).
Which version did you use? The newest is 2.6.1 and I used that one.

Game starts with the x64 version. Game still crashes but took longer from what I think. Still problem persists
    ~Also I use a 64bit system - should I not use x64 in that case?~
Edited: May 13, 2025 Reason: Edit: tried 64bit version.

Logically, it's impossible for anybody to help you if you don't say what the error is.
