Technical Long-Term Future Realm Switch?

Hey, guys! :)

I'm new to WoW, and coming off Warcraft 3, I came here because I wanted to experience the world pre-Cataclysm at my own pace, and so far, I'm having a great time, but, I was wondering...
If, when I'm happy with what my characters have experienced in WotLK I then want the story to advance, would it be theoretically possible to request a realm transfer to your MoP server to carry the story on?

Thanks anyway! Guess I'll just have to have new protagonists going into the Cataclysm. Good opportunity to try the new races and class, I guess. :)
