Hello, are soft reserves allowed on the server? I think it gives player the ability to come to the raid to get what they want specificially. Naturally loot will be given after X amount of bosses were defeated so they don't leave after first boss. Please let me know, and thanks.
Also willing to discuss this topic! I think it's quite an interesting one.
You can reserve items, make sure everyone knows about it before it starts. There is some "limit" tough, at some unspecified point between "0" and "all" items, you will get banned and it will not matter that everyone agreed to it.
So basically I allow all raid members to reserve whatever item they want (As long as it's for their spec+class unless they tell me their MS). And if X person is the only reserve he gets the item. If there are 2 or more people reserved for the item, they roll on it and biggest roll receives the item. Shouldn't be an issue as far as I understand, correct?
As long as you make it very clear and specific in the raid rules, so every single member is fully informed of what to expect from the loot. Making it so each person can claim a reservation will be a huge mess, as you would be changing the rules for every new person who wants to claim something, and each time you would have to update the whole group so they are free to leave if they don't want to be in a raid with a certain item reserved.

Obnoxious' reply still stands. People need to know well ahead of time what items are reserved before getting saved.
Even if you use addon, it requires manual input to set it all up. With 15 people reserving 15 items, mistake(s) may happen.
EDIT: Wild edit 6 hours later. It would need to state for whom an item is reserved. "DBW ress" isn't the same if it's being reserved by 3 people to roll for. "DBW rolled between A, B, C" would be accurate.
GMs won't care about your add-ons when someone reports you with screenshots showing that you divided loot based on rules that weren't clearly stated to every member of the group before the raid started. That doesn't even touch on the fact people might leave as soon as they find out an item they wanted is already reserved, or when someone new joins and now there's a roll for an item they thought was reserved for them. And remember that any mistake in the loot distribution will fall on you as the raid leader.
