Using Soul Preserver trinket as a Holy Paladin

I recently came back from a longer hiatus, and resumed playing my Holy Paladin.

As I browsed various BiS lists, I noticed that many WotLK classic BIS lists (for example https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/guide/...ar-pve-phase-4) listed lvl 78 trinket Soul Preserver https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=37111 as the ultimate BiS trinket.
I also saw multiple other endgame geared holy paladins wearing this trinket in the wild. This trinket is never mentioned in the "old" WotLK holy paladin guides

Now I understand that WotLK classic might have buffed some things as compared to the version we're playing, but I don't think the trinket has changed anyhow. So I went and farmed the trinket to try it out. The proc rate is abysmal (2%) and doesn't really seem to be worth it at all? Or am I mistaken?

What are your thoughts on this thing? I'm using meteorite crystal and glowing twilight scale (normal) as my trinkets right now, with talisman of resurgence as an option instead of scale.

I highly advice you to watch at least this part of the video guide we have made. I have it timestamped for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ0w4XOykYQ&t=3880s

I'm not aware of a single trinket WotLK Classic had buffed but rather some class mechanics was changed/buffed/nerfed and ofc the increase item level of Ulduar items. However Soul Preserver trinket is actually the WotLK version of Eye of Gruul trinket from TBC which works in a similar way. This what you probably don't know is that you have 2% chance per healing source and not per spell cast which means that for Holy Paladin this trinket is extremely powerful since you can hit up to 7 targets with a single Holy Light cast (Holy Light + Beacon of Light + 5 x Glyph of Holy Light). The trinket averages ~250 mp5 which puts it slightly behind Meteorite Crystal assuming you use MC trinket on cooldown. You can check some UwU logs for comparison but to get some imagination on BQL 25HC (~ 3 min fight) expect ~13 to 15 procs. Considering the way the math works and calculations of mana reduction effects, you actually "gain" 760 mana per proc used with Holy Light. So if we assume 14 procs on average over a 3 min fight this would be worth 295 mp5.

Thank you. This was definitely a good guide to watch. Maybe I'll hold onto this trinket and actually try it out in a proper raid setting some time.
