Hi, I am kind of new to hunter and I noticed that dueling is very difficult as them. Do they lose most duels just due to the mechanics of the classes? For example:
Warrior - they just keep charging me, once my deterrence is gone they do the blade storm
Paladin - I usually can't dmg them enough
Death Knight - they grip you and you die pretty quickly, although I hear they are basically amazing at 1v1
Druid - if its balance, game over for me
Shaman - they do more dmg it seems, take less themselves or w/e
Warlock - I can't even move sometimes they charm over and over again and fear, trinket useless
Rogue - GGs for hunter RIP
Priest - GGs for hunter RIP
Mage - depends on the mage, but frost what I've seen them do is take out my pet right away while I'm polymorphed, and ggs.
It seems like most matchups are difficult? I have the best success against feral druids and some mages. I've killed some locks here and there as well. Warrior and paladins I can survive a little longer than normal but they usually catch up to me in the end, the dmg is not enough against them.
I'm not sure if it's just me or Hunter is just hard to play in 1v1 scenarios. Any advice would be appreciated.
If they require more effort and practice to win then doesn't that mean that they are not as powerful as other classes in 1v1?
It just seems Hunter is weak in dueling. It doesn't really crush anything that easily like say what a Sub Rogue or Shadow Priest does to a Hunter.
No. Just because they take more practice doesn't make them less powerful.
I will say any class takes extensive practice to be good. The grand majority of players you fight are just average and do the same thing over and over. Extremely predictable. And the issue for example is the average rogue beats an average hunter so players won't play hunter and think they're not great in PvP. But a good hunter will beat an average rogue every time. Especially when average rogues here don't even know what a good hunter is.
What classes should I be beating regularly as a Hunter? I mean what do I counter primarily? If possible, could I build my Hunter to counter melee classes?

You can counter all of them. Just watch the videos I linked above. Copy what they are doing.

What it means for a class to be bad at 1v1 is that no matter how skilled you are you still lose. Hunter has a high skill ceiling, in part because of the insane amount of spells that it has. Since by definition most players are average (assuming that player skill is in a bell curve) you should worry about getting better yourself.

Not necessarily, you could have a situation where you can win but just not as often as other classes. That's my point and question, whether Hunter is just worse on average than other classes in 1v1 scenarios.
It would be nice if there was a way to get win/loss statistics for each class but I don't know if it's possible.
You've been repeatedly told by two people that Hunter isn't bad or worse, it just has a much higher skill ceiling and requires a much better player controlling it. It seriously feels like you just want to find something to confirm your bias that the class is bad in 1v1, now moving to statistics when other players didn't say what you wanted to hear.

They aren't worse. The thing with class balance in Wrath PvP is that most classes can be competitive. In a 1 v 1 situation it really is coming down to a player's skill. Gear could also be an issue. If you don't have decent damage output and survivability against more geared opponents that could put you at a disadvantage for sure.

Nobodies been convincing enough to me. Apologies for being stubborn. Anyhow, I have seen quite a few Hunters with decent duel records to see that they can be somewhat viable.
Hunters are amazing in wpvp and BGs because they can outrun their opponents and have a higher attack range than most classes.
That means that hunter can kite a opponent on max distance while the opponent is not even able to come close enough to the hunter to use range attacks.
Duels are a different story because of the area restriction which makes kiting more difficult for the hunter and gives the opponent a opportunity to reach the hunter.
