I was actually thinking of learning krav maga (now, not when I'm old), but aikido does seem like a better choice for later on in life. I've also always been rather interested in the whole chi (or ki) stuff.
I will only say this once. MMA is NOT a martial art. It stands for Mixed Martial Arts. I did judo and boxing. In a sense, I'm more of a MMA fighter than you.
Says nothing, saw a kid who never really did a fight sport. Breaking a guy who has been wrestling, kickboxing and did some karate his arm in a MMA fight.
MMA is tough in that you have to work on all types of styles instead of a single discipline.
But.
Guns plis
Why would you reply to him. Stop. Negan, please.
So when the Thing splits or infects another, does the part gain individuality or is it connected through some hive mind ?
Considering that, are all the cells forming a THING individuals that happen to work together for a goal ?
Your analogy is confusing
From what I have seen, watching both Thing movies, every single alien cell is individual but will work together towards attaining their goal. Makes sense since a single cell can not do anything other than stand around a wither.
It is pretty obvious when MacReady tries to incinerate Norris but his head removes by itself, trying to escape. MacReady even explains this later on.
No analogy, just trying to change the subject.
That's not an analogy, that's just unrelated ranting about the Thing.
How would you even begin to think that it is? Hmm, "when the Thing splits and infects another". He must be talking about the tendency for stupidity to spread. The part about individuality and hive mind? It's a reflection upon how stupid people lose themselves as individuals and just copy others around them. "All cells forming a single individual"? Like... a crowd of stupid people? Someone pass me the bong, this sh*t is too deep for me.
It's not something that works well if the origin of the styles you train are too far apart.
Ki is basically the ability to add the full force and weight of your body to your movement without swinging around too obviously.
The basic principle of aikido is to use your full weight against your opponent to keep them in control. Arm strength is what most people use, and that just isn't enough, which is apparent if you've ever brawled with someone.
Aikido also involves rusing your opponent's muscles. For example, very careful movement and control of your muscles is required to first add pressure to your opponent, and then relax yourself to also force the opponent's muscles to relax.
A certain sensei taught the technique ikkyo to me and my fellow aikidokas through this exact method. When he did it to me, he just held me down, and when I tried to resist, suddenly I just got all loose and couldn't help but fall on the floor. I think it's more of a new form, though. Traditionally most techniques just utilize ki (weight/force control) and the opponent's own force to throw them off balance.
The stuff this guy in this video does is something my sensei has to move alot more for to do succesfully. I have to commit even more to legwork if I want to put my full force into all those throws. If those guys attacking him would not have any aikido training, many would have their wrists broken due to no stretching, and would take far longer to recover every time they fall.

Ease up m8, only trollin (Hence why Odin's getting Butthurt for no reason)
But in reality i've learned a number of martial arts and fashioned them into an MMA "Style" if you. For example, I take basic techniques of judo and mix them in with intermediate techniques of Muay Thai (Not so much as the form looks sloppy and rough, but just to spice up the combat so that i'm not as... "Mainstream" or however you'd put it as any other Muay Thai student.
Loosen up your ******* mate, not everything has to be a serious *** conversation. This is why we never get along.
Too many people make that mistake and it certainly didn't look like you were trolling.
Anyway, I only use judo for the insane twisting and rupturing moves and techniques.... like you know, when you don't want to kill your opponent, but break his arms and legs and reduce them to jell-o.
In a street fight, box is a must. I think it's the most useful martial art when it comes to real, unexpected, non-staged fights. And combine it with judo (judo goes well with everything) you can really **** up any mugger or drunkard or anyone who tries to **** up your night :P
