The circumstances did not let him enough time to react and most likely he did not have anything else but his gun. Who knows what Martin him to make George leave his car. But it's obvious he did NOT leave this car to kill Martin.
He could have done many other things as in what? Beat him up? Because Martin would not back up like that. The kid was a punk. Did he deserve to die? NO! Could George do anything else? Maybe. Did he? NO!
Is he "innocent"? Yes and no. Did he kill a person? Yes. Was it in self defense? Yes.

Either way, Zimmerman was screwed. He didn't go to jail, but now the media's skewed representation of the case and its details will tar him as an intentional child murderer for the rest of his life.

Why was he equipped with a gun? Hell I'm sure he could've armed himself with something else. You said it yourself he could have done something else and in my view he should've. If he'd done something else this story wouldn't even have made the news.

Oh crap yea, forgot they were legal over there.. Eitherway, a tazer would do the job just as well, he's a member of the neighbourhood watch, he should never be shooting someone. Regardless of the outcome of his trial he will forever be portrayed as a killer and no-one except from Zimmerman will really know what happened.

Exactly. America is very proud of their M4 which isn't really much better than any other rifle.
And killed the kid even more violently. Anything that isn't tranquilizers or a taser makes it more difficult to apprehend someone unlethally.

Shot him in the leg? From what I heard he barely could get the gun out. And when you're getting your head bashed in aiming becomes something of a nonissue.
