Course you need spell pen. It reduces your damage by 25% if you are not capped.

Also noticed you wrote Hungering Cold, do you mean Howling Blast... I'd find it odd that Hungering would do damage.
Hello,
Noob frost DK here. I have a question regarding Howling Blast glyph. Can you please explain why it is good for Frost PvP? I play without Obliterate and find myself spamming Howling Blast along with Necrotic strikes. Glyph of Howling Blast makes Howling Blast apply Frost Fever. Since i spam it on enemy, the disease keeps refreshing and that causes it to not do any dmg.
For example if i cast 4 blasts on the enemy, disease refreshes 4 times instead of ticking 2 times (for example, not sure how many ticks it can do in that time).
Basically this glyph is dmg loss or am i missing something?
Since howling blast does more spread and single damage on targets with the introduction to the glyph, you can add more dps by having a disease ticked on your targets which will ramp up your dps on a mob of targets. If you cannot see your disease damage try downloading msbt (Miks Scrolling Battle Text) which shows how much damage is put in every attack you give.
But if i spam it on group of enemies, the disease keeps refreshing and doesn't do any dmg. I tried in a group of target dummies.
So the glyph is used to spread Frost Fever on more targets? And it is better because diseases spread via Pestilence do 50% damage?
But it spreads only frost fever! And since it is spammed, that doesn't do any damage. If, for example, I use Outbreak, then spread diseases with Pestilence, and then spam Howling Blast without glyph shouldn't it be more damage this way?
Your going to waste an UH rune on Pestillence? NO.
You glyphing Howling Blase for the fact you don't have to worry about using Icy Touch to apply Frost fever, and then worry abotu spreading it, saving 2 runes. These two runes then allow you to do more damage, more pressure and therefore its better overall.
Let me see if i understand - you use glyphed Howling Blast to not worry about applying diseases on your target and just start blasting away? What about Blood Plague? You don't use it? You can always use Outbreak to apply diseases without using any runes.
Maybe you didn't understand the question.
If you start blasting away with glyphed Howling Blast it applies Frost Fever. But as soon as you blast same enemy second time, the disease REFRESHES, most of the time it clips the first tick of previously applied Frost Fever. By doing this continuously the Frost Fever will NEVER tick because it is being refreshed until you stop blasting the enemy (run of out runes, whatever). Since Howling Blast hits many enemies, the effect will be same for every target and in result none of your targets will receive Frost Fever damage until you stop blasting them.
Now, for example, if i don't use glyph of Howling Blast while fighting a group of enemies. Use Outbreak, Pestilence to spread BOTH diseases on all enemies, and then start blasting them. While i blast them, both Frost Fever and Blood Plague are ticking. The glyph doesn't increase the damage of Howling Blast, so it's own damage is the same. But Frost Fever isn't being refreshed, ticks away, and does damage. => Unglyphed howling blast increases damage done, and since it leaves glyph slot open, you can use glyph of Icy Touch for 20% increased Frost Fever damage.
I hope i made my point clear. Awaiting constructive feedback.
The damaged caused by Blood Plague as frost isnt a major concern to keep it up, and since you are not using Oblit there is no need for it for it to do the additional damage.
As for DoT clipping, why someone would literally be spamming Howling without any breathing room, even 2 GCDs (Throw a necro in there, or frost strike) and your tick is there.
I have never noticed any issues with Dot cliping in my entire time playing Frost.
Thank you for your answer. But it still doesn't answer my question about the damage difference :D maybe it's too difficult to understand and isn't as important...
And throwing in other skills in between howling blasts JUST to let the Frost Fever tick i think is not a good thing. What if i have no runic power and no unholy/death runes? I must wait for a tick instead of blasting the enemy instantly? No way :D I am not sure if any DK tracks the ticks of his diseases, if they are applied - good. I will not wait for a tick for 1700 dmg before using Chains of Ice on enemy who is fleeing/beating on my teammate.
It's saving you using a Frost Rune on using Icy Touch, keeping everything with a disease on, keeping things slowed, keeping everything easier for people.
If you don't want to glyph if , don't. I am confused why your moaning about Dot clipping when in fact you don't care about dot damage anyway. What else you wanna glyph there? Oblit? cos thats pointless.
If you don't want to glyph if then use Glyph of Icy Touch for increased DoT damage but the amount of DPS you'd lose is a fair bit, since IT hits like a wet noodle, it's a waste of a Frost Rune to use.
let me enlighten u , u don't take howling blast glyph for the disease damage , but to apply frost sever that is gonna also apply chillblain to your target so that you can slow them without chains of ice. Leaving chains of ice only for peeling purpose to root your target when needed. If you don't take howling blast glyph and slow your target from range with chains of ice, first of all you will do less damage, second of all you will **** up the DR of your root and you will have your target immune to it when you need it the most.
tank mi later)
And i am not moaning about dot clipping i am trying to understand the reason behind this.
The only amount of DPS i lose is "instant damage of howling blast" minus "instant damage of icy touch" when applying diseases. And since Frost Fever has 20% increased dmg with the glyph and the ticks aren't clipped i am not sure if that is DPS loss at all.
There. At least someone understood. Thank you.
