Too many people are incapable of distinguishing the two from each other. If ERP would be porn, standard RP would be more like a regular movie, and the players being the actors. It's quite fun, honestly.

Well regular Rp is definitely different but ERP is still RP nonetheless.
What is to be distinguished is
Erp != sexting. Or rather a true ERP. But then again.. Moonguard might have diverted from true erp ... So what you're seeing is just a bunch of horney fat kids being stupid.
The vocabulary and use of words in an ERP makes it more of a sex novel or a detailed sex scene of an adult fiction. I doubt any regular lonely kid would take the time and neurons to think of such.

However I really don't get the fascination with ERP, I actually find it quite creepy.

ERP'ers give roleplayers in general a bad rep.
Half of the people you will find in Goldshire are trolls. The remaining half is a mix of people that are actually into it, or hoping to find decent RP among the ruckus, or just passing through. Like maybe 15% of the people you will see there are legit ERPers.

My gf is going to go to a neurologist with her CT scan (I think this is a proper name of it in english) and that reminded me about a situation in the past: when i was younger my brother and I used to fight everyday and say some nasty things about each other (brother's love xD) and he's favourite quote was:"you are a brainless f*ck" and one day after a car accident I had CT scan and all the stuff on CD and I was happy to show him scans of my brain so that it was a solid proof that I am not "brainless" and he must find a new text to get me angry. Well.....CD did not work, had some error....some things are just pointless xD
