You've obviously never been to southeastern Europe in summer. I have AC so I have no issues with heat and sweat during the day but it definitely isn't nice when you wake up and your bed covers and hair is glued to you due to excessive humidity outside.

It is easier to cool than it is to heat, also requires less energy, which means its cheaper.

Hot beverage + 2 blankets you can snuggle in seems energy efficient to me.

i used to live in Eastern Europe, were Summers went up to 35-40(C) and in winter down to -25 (C). then I moved to the UK, I find the weather quite strange here, it's like there's no such thing as snow in the winter, and it's just a little bit warm in the summer.
