1. Survival appreciation thread

Hello fellow hunters. In light of recent events and state of hunter community, there has been great unjustice done to the game. Unjustice called lack of survival hunters. As an avid hunter player and a die hard SV supporter it saddens me that all hunters have shifted to BM spec, some on MM, but 95% is BM. And all that just to get easy kills when sending pets and sitting back watching pet do the pet thing.
On Cataclysm it was somewhat okayish situation as every once in a full moon you could see SV hunter join BG, but as soon as MoP hit the realms BM exploded like plague. From the start of MoP i can literally count on fingers of one hand SV hunters I've seen in battlegrounds.
Is the hunter community more into flavour of the month specs than warlock community?

I mean, SV is bad in BGs and killing a healer is considered feat of strength, defensive cooldowns like deterrence and master's call are a lot of times useless because they are broken (survival doesn't actually survive as name suggests), but still SV spec is incredibly fun with lots of buttons to press and lots of ways to support team: low cd traps, serpent spread to keep pressure on heals, explosive shot to annoy the hell out of people when they explode every second for few seconds in row, and so on.. Ok, there isn't much listed, but trust me, ocasionally you can aid your team if you go kamikaze into enemy group and trap them all for few seconds.

All that being said, let's give some love for the only true hunter spec. BM hunters welcome only to express their regret and that they have converted and realised errors of their ways.

(I understand this thread will die fast just like the spec died as soon as MoP came)

  2. Surv was great in Cata, I agree to that, on MoP it just sucks (or it's THAT bugged on molten)
I used to lvlup to 90 in survi spec (serpent sting is hitting like a truck on low lvls, scales great), but later it's jst useless

  3. I played survival in bgs for quite a while. while it does lack slightly in killing power, its really good if you know how to burst with lnl (managed a 52k pvp crit tick once xD). Entrapment is godsent against melee in general. Pretty fun spec all in all.

  4. Survival has always been the less popular hunter spec because of a simply fact.
Survival offers survival abilities, but hunter already has some survival abilities. I think all people can see that by himself. It's not hard.

Now, in almost all expantions, MM tree has a spell called "Readinness", this spell resets all hunters cd, including the ones who are considered "survival abilities".

Doubling the basic hunter survival abilities offers more survivability than being a normal hunter + survival tree hunter survival abilities.

Less words? MM is more SV than SV. Being SV is not worth.

And all SV mains know already that when they are playing that spec they are not doing anything a MM coudn't do with less difficulty.

First of all there isnt "Readinness" on MoP. Second back in the days 1.4 patch survival was made to be a melee spec for hunters. This is why it still has that name. They just put some surv talents here which arent in mop too. In PVP just ppl prefer burst dmg instead of dot dmg. Also silencing shot is a big difference.

I play SV main and I'm doing stuff that MM can't pull off. For example I do pretty strong mass dot damage with multishot spam when the enemy group in BG is tight. It puts big pressure on heals if I target heal as main target and do additional damage to everyone around them. With Thrill of the Hunt talent you can spam multishot quite nicely and since serpent spread does additional damage on hit it adds up fast. MM can't place so much traps for example and CC so well with them. Minus 6 sec on trap CD Survival gets is big, and that means more knockbacks from Explosive trap. Entrapment is even better.
Main problem people have with SV is that they can't kill with 2 buttons, but have to rather keep the damage pressure for a bit longer due to SV being oriented around dots. You won't see SV's hits taking chunks o' HP with every hit and that's what people don't like.
People like to see big numbers pop on their screen and SV just doesn't do big numbers, but that doesn't mean it's inferior. You just need to know what your capabilities are as class/spec and what's the best way to exploit your spec advantages (And here I don't mean bug exploit).
