1. Coming to private servers in about 700 years: Mercenary mode

It would be great to be able to do battlegrounds without faction restriction, retail is about to release a feature that allows this. The image in the article is funny. Private servers probably will never figure out how to implement though.

    Reverse psychology will never work...

  3. Just play on retail then, no worries fam.

  4. I paid €27 the other day to faction change just to sit in 30 minute BG ques and 2h Ashran ques.

All cos Horde on my Bgroup sucks... Oh well now Im one of like 20 level 100 Alliance on my 99.9% Horde realm.

If a private server is technically competent enough to code Garrisons, this feature is a walk in the park for them. Not all servers will implement it, correct. Just look at how available Wintergrasp is in most servers - nonexistent. If simple coded battleground has taken many years before being coded, imagine how long more advanced features will take.

TBH how hard can it be to just activate it for everyone, make Random BGs in the style of Arenas where it's all factionless and you are merely a team colour.
It'll just be like SoloQ Arenas on Blackrock but with 10/15M BGs.

  7. Cross faction battlegrounds are implemented on lots of other private servers. The code is even released to the public free to use. I doubt warmane would add it to any of the current servers. Maybe they will add it once they expand with WoD servers.

Ye exactly, this exists on smaller private servers for a loooong time, we talking years... It's a fast and sloppy way to fix faction imbalance.

The general idea is intuitive, if the faction queue is long, then allow player to transform into opposite faction to play battleground. On a more technical level, this, with considerations and limitations could become a complicated system.

    Feasibility below:

    1) if (AshenBattleground.getAshenBattlegroundTime() > maximumWaitTime()) then
    Spawn Mercenary

    2) Faction specific achievements are removed; this can cause a problem to develop.

    3) Chat functionality reworked; you have to communicate with Alliance players, could cause issues.

    4) Race functionality reworked: are there are functional constraints, namely, will the racial change, e.g. Orc changing into Human, will they have Every man for themselves racial, or an Orc racial that will give away they are mercenary.

    5) item functionality; this could change since the system has to believe the character has a temporary faction change. What if you have a Horde specific trinket, then change to Alliance, will this trinket also change, or will it not be useable? This will cause problems to code.

    6) the masks that Blizzard use to fool for the opposite faction example is a representitive way of conveying this idea quite simple. However, the functionality of the system will have to be changed, and constraints will have to be implemented based on the non-functionality intention.

    7) Blizzards intention is to disguise the player to discreetly pass them off as their own faction. Thus, each of these will have to be considered. Perhaps an Alliance inspects a Horde who is disguised as Alliance, and sees a trinket that can only be equipped from the Horde, or using a racial or passive that is only found from the opposite faction. There is a lot to consider.

    8) Achievements will also have to change completely. If you are Horde changing to Alliance who has done For the Horde, these achievements will also have to be changed to match the identity, in particular, change to For the Alliance if disguised as the Alliance faction,, this is a non-functional constraint, as part of Blizzards "discreet" ability to pass as the opposite faction.

    9) Game Design; the look and feel of the character will change. What if the character owns Horde-specific arena gear that has faction specific colours and only owned by Horde players. If they faction transfer in a battleground, what will their character look like? Will the Horde-specific gear and colours have to be changed as a result? These are considerations to keep this discreet.

This is not an exhaustive list but only just a few considerations of implementing this system. This will entirely depend on How Blizzard intend to develop the system.

Lol, horde biased much? This isn't a battlegroup issue, this is a Blizzard buffing Alliance racials and nerfing Horde Racials "issue" oh and gratz on paying Blizzard more money for something they should be fixing at the core of the problem, not just putting a bandaid on the boo boo. These days, Blizzard doesn't seem to wanna fix any real problems, they just wanna go about the worst way of pissing their dwendling population off. I've already opted out of buying the next expansion and my current account is completely canceled and I spend a 100% of the time here because of Blizzard's bad business model.

If Warnane decided to do a WoD server, I saverely hope they just fix the raids and that's it, as ashran 100% sucks, pvp is crap, ability prunning was the most *****ic thing they did to handle class balance as no classes feel so shallow and empty, the open world is awful, Tanaan Jungle was horribly implemented, and omg wtf did they do to professions?

Bottom Line is this is the new direction of World of Warcraft, we'll be seeing more butchered content, less content, and Developers that have no clue what they are doing, and this'll continue to go on until WoW pretty much finishes dying and Blizzard stops pumping any kind of money into WoW.

    Anyways: On Topic.

Merc Mode is horrible and a slap in the face for both Alliance and Horde a like. If you wanna play on horde, go level a horde or faction change and the same can be same about the Alliance. If Blizzard wants to fix PvP balance, stop nerfing and buffing racials as they're just causing more damage then it's worth and pissing more people off and people shouldn't be picking a race, class, and/or faction because of OP racials, they should be picking classes because the class appeals to them and the love the lore, the zones, and look.

Fact: Every time Blizzard buffs a racial the elitist rush and faction change to that race for what they may consider a small advantage and then the rest of the crowd follows leaving the game to feel lope sided and one faction worthless in pvp. In MoP Alliance had insta que's into bg's and a low % of a chance to win the bg and the horde had the highest chance to win, in 6.0 Horde racials got nerfed and Alliance got buffed, so that's why you Kemii feel that the horde on your battlegroup suck. Now horde has insta que's and Alliance have to wait 30min for bg que's, but if you wanna continue blaming the horde as a whole, feel free, but this is clearly a Blizzard issue and not a player issue.

  11. Instead of transforming the player into a race of the other faction, they should stick with the NPC idea and just wear an irremovable mask. Now that would be funny as hell.

  12. They are doing this because of the major faction imbalance, it's just a band-aid fix to a bigger problem.
Crossrealm(for warmane) BGs/Arenas makes much more sense, but i am certain it'll be more difficult to implement.

  13. Doesn't change too much, that "PvP Mercenary Mode" is dog ****. Let me tell you about it from perspective of a player who plays on ****test realm EU: You can scr3w yourself and destroy all fun from the game, only by choosing trash realm with underpopulated faction (like I did, Wildhammer Horde). Now try to take my point of view: Top player (of course from Horde only) has 1800 3s rating here, top rated battleground player has 1628, every single Ashran is "lets go rares, we cant win". Now look at PvE aspect of the game, not a SINGLE hardcore raiding guild over here, the best Horde guild doesn't have even single Mythic boss killed from HFC! Incredible.

Overally, for me playing on retail is equal to playing on private server at the moment, its just pathetic. Cross-realm guilds would help alot, so thousand stuck players like me would have a chance to lick the real game experience.

New promotional mount in shop will fix all the problems.

  14. For retail realms with so many people that's nice feature. For any private server it will be useless.
