As long as you have 3.3.5a and the right realmlist: logon.warmane.com , you can switch realms by clicking the switch realm button on the character screen.

The new client i downloaded says .ru instead of .com and is telling me it is a read only file and cant be edit. What do i do?

I got it to change to .com by changing the file, but im still getting unable to connect

if you're seeing realmName in the file then you're not looking in the right place.
You want to edit the realmlist.wtf file in your Data/Language folder. Ex - World of Warcraft 3.3.5a\Data\enUS\realmlist.wtf
