Does anyone have an idea of what typical population of a retail server would be? How does that compare to the current size of Lordaeron?
I've tried looking on sites like https://realmpop.com/, but they only seem to list total # of characters (100k+ on both sides), not necessarily the number of active players currently logged in.
Assuming max of 10 characters per account per realm, this leads me to believe ~10k individual players/accounts per faction at the very minimum. But I don't think this means the retail realm gets 20k players logging in each and every day.
I also know retail is very different now in that everything is instanced and cross-realm, so this number might not be so clear anymore.
I'm asking because it seems like I encounter more players in the world randomly than I ever did on retail while playing on a Medium pop realm during this time period.
I'm sure part of that is due to being confined to Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor, but I'm talking about the population playing retail vanilla VS this server.

A 'typical' retail server? 3-4k. Lots of lower pop realms, but the ones that see a queue once in a while are around 6-7k.
Not including cross realm and merged realm mechanics.
