Stat Decreases on Level Up

During a recent level up on my paladin I noticed that the section in chat that informs you of your stat increases stated "you have received -1 hit points". I checked and sure enough I had 1 less hit point than I should have when factoring in the increase in stamina. While not a big change, I have never seen this happen before in Lordaeron or in retail. Is this the result of a bug or is it something that occasionally happens? Anyone else notice a similar thing?
