So I'm having frame rate drops in BG to the point that my game "freezes" for a second or two every few moments. I've been looking this problem up on the net and the reason for this is mostly add-ons that are not compatible with Blizzard entertainment, but...
I'll write down a few things that might help you to help me:
- my game freezes (0 FPS) in two cases: when I'm in BG, when a shaman puts down his totems
- usual frame rate during normal game play (questing, raiding, freelancing, arena, duels) is +/- 50 fps
- did try to play BG without any, and I really mean without any add-ons but the game still freezes up
- video settings don't do much, the difference in fps when on low and when on ultra is not really noticeable
If you need some more info ask, I would like to solve this problem already so I can enjoy a nice and smooth battleground for once...
It's kinda of a game response problem, server-client, i think.
I get too a lot of freezes, sometimes 2-3 sec, sometimes evern 1-2min.
Happens a lot because of shaman tottems and sometimes when hunters deterrance, or on massive AoE.
Tested everything too, addons and not, details on low/max, etc, same story.
And no, i don't have ****ty pc or internet, it's serverside for sure, been asking around, lots of people have this problem apparently.
I'm talking about WOTLk tho, i don't know about others.
Try disabling nameplates. They are the most CPU expensive UI element.
I think fps lag on totem cast hints to this especially, as its additional nameplates created / shown.
Blizzard has history of issues with nameplates post 3.3.5a. I recall seeing people make fixes for blizzard nameplates in different patches for fps.
This happened to me all the time when I used LoseControl addon. On other hand, also removing Cache folder used to fix it for a while, or when it started happening again randomly(which does from time to time, usually months apart), I just deleted cache and problem was gone.
Have same problem here, happens when I cast some particular spells or enemy use particular spells.
Deleting cache helps for a while but not too long. I have a suspicion that some addon might be causing this but I am too lazy to test it right now.
Well i don't know about addons, had this problem with LostControl and without.
Yesterday for example, i was literaly alone, in AV near Stoneheart, screen freeze like 1 min, i had time to jump 2 times then it freeze another 2 mins.
So, how? noone was casting, no nameplates around - and i actualy use just players nameplates for bg, had like 48 ms cuz i looked like 2 mins before, fps and ****s all good cuz good pc.
But yet again, this is 1st time it happens after like 1 week, it's rare now, but it used to be a lot more often.
Thing is, i play with same set of addons for months, so there's no difference.
Did you try redownloading client, and which client are you using - normal or WoD models?
Perhaps you should try with completely fresh "normal" client (new download and no addons at all) and see how it goes. Because it shouldn't be happening server side, as far as I know, those freezes happen only in SotA which cause WoW error but other than that I've never had a 1-2 min freeze that did not crash a game.
Also you could check the drivers, might be some conflict since the game is quite old. Which graphic card do you have? Other good thing is to check CPU/RAM/VRAM usage in time of freeze itself.
I use the default 335a client, no models, no stuff like that, doesn't matter in order to redownload it.
I know the SotA error, that's a particular one, nothing to do with this.
My pc is up to date, i'm a nerd, i care for my drivers and etc, i tweaked every cpu core and ram frequencies, same thing happens.
I do have a theory like this happens when devs add live fixes for exploits or something, or maybe some legit lag spike.
For example there's the lag spike and the client itself fails to process the amount of spells or environment changes.
Not always, but sometimes, even tho before it happens i have like 50 ms, after the freeze goes by, everyone around is having like turbo speed and suddenly i have 500ms.
But, it's not my internet, a quick /reload solves the problem.
Thing i'm most pissed about, sometimes it fcks up my binds, it's like client goes crazy, so i need to restart the game; this happend like 5 times in 1 year.
Tried deleting cache folder and removing nameplates - at first it did look like it helped, but after a few BG's it definitely didn't actually help. But to be fair removing nameplates did help out with shaman totems, game still freezes up but just for a brief moment.
BG on the other hand is still a living nightmare. My screen freezes shortly when I enter the BG which is probably normal. When I revive in BG it freezes up, during combat it freezes a lot and when running somewhere (etc in AV) it freezes again briefly now and then.

Tell us which expansion you are playing. If similar issue occured on retail it would be easy to look up.
Open Task Manager next time you do bgs and keep eye on CPU usage. Try closing down background programs. Sometimes multiple tabs on Chrome causes fps lagging for me and just reopening Chrome fixes it.
If your CPU usage is maxed out and you have no other programs running you can at least rule out other programs.
I don't have any problems with freezes, but my fps drops a lot in AV around tower point if the bg is full and a fight is happening, other than that I'm using an nvdia 2g card, 8 gigs ram, i7 duo core (undervolted aka laptop) and the new models client.
Be sure if you are using nvdia to have that **** configured from the nvdia pannel using google as a main sorce of info, basicly you can custumize the settings so WOW is always ran on the nvdia and not a integrated card if you have one.
P.S. I'm also using all the **** - platebuffs, debuff filters, recount :D, tidy nameplates, vuhdos etc.
this **** is pure server-side. even on min video settings i get lags in av (AV only) 3.3.5 client (doesnt matter which licent i use, both of them have lag), at the same time mop client doesnt lag on max settings
