1. Warmane Gold Inflation Crisis

As you all know, the extension on Deathwing server of the snowmen and Cow level events allowed for ridiculous over-farming and mass exploitation, as people had enough time to do them over and over and over on many different characters. The result of this has been a MASSIVE influx of new gold that shouldn't have existed in the first place, but now we're left with it. What does that mean for the long-term? Well there are gold sinks like the AH and repairs and whatnot to chip away at inflation, but it will be some time before it is all chipped away enough to where things settle back down to the levels they were before these Christmas events. Thus, the price of many trade goods, armor, and weapons has increased significantly, and the sudden introduction of millions of new gold has now made gold worth much less than it was before...

More surprisingly, I remember browsing the gold market on the Warmane store before these Christmas events, and there was about 500k-800k being sold at any given time. I checked the gold store section again a little while ago, and the results were staggering. I used a calculator and added it all up. This is what I got...

With the gold I bought a few days ago at 230k, Deathwing server now has around TEN MILLION gold in its store within less than a month. And that's just gold that's being sold, not to mention all the gold that isn't being sold that came from those events. And with all the EoF and EoT that people massively farmed on all of their characters, the gems market has ballooned. My friends, we are now in an economic market crash. Gold, if it has not already become so, is about to become worthless.

  2. The economy was so horrible before this event, so I don't see a problem. Finally people have a little bit of gold. Before, gear was super expensive on AH, yet everything you could get from professions to sell and make some gold was worth so little that it wasn't even worth farming. People on here have to resort to ninjaing I mean "reserving" items from raids in order to make any gold, and it's disgusting. So I'm quite happy with the result of these events.

  3. I also saw a drop in gem prices since moltdown, cut gems mostly sold for about 1 500 gold each and in the last year at about 600 - 900 gold each. This is just terrible.

That's called supply and demand, not inflation. And if anything, it's deflation.

No, actually, the economy wasn't nearly as horrible as it is now. People already had a little bit of gold, but now they have a ton of it. You think gear was super expensive before these events? Hah! They're ridiculously overpriced now. Everything you could get from professions was still worth selling and worth farming, and the profit margin was fine. The downside now is that there's so much NEW gold and new gems, that the actual value of gold has decreased and inflation has skyrocketed. I'm talking about the prices of goods being 5 times what they were before, almost all across the board. Even gems now, 5 times what they were a couple months ago. You'd think that's a good thing, but only if there was less gold in circulation. Because there's millions of new gold in circulation, your extra profit isn't really profit, because everything else you buy is also made 5 times more expensive, if not more. Gold has become useless for currency accumulation. You might as well convert all your gold into more valuable trade goods. It wouldn't really be too bad of a problem if the gold cap was around 999k or something per character....but since it's only 214k, all that extra gold will continually float in circulation, thus creating a stagnant inflation economy.

If someone were to buy up all the gold in the store and then send it out to new chars or alts, and wouldn't use that gold anymore, he would effectively remove it from circulation and the economy would go back to what it was before, which was far more stable than it is right now. But it's almost impossible anyone would do that. What would be preferred is if the GMs wiped out all the gold obtained during those events, remove it from circulation or maybe convert it into coins or vote points, so long as the gold is actually removed from the server.

  6. you know its going to go up regardless right? people spend years here and amass fortunes. 25k primos anyone pre moltdown?

I'm sorry, but the only response I can manage to this post is a huge /FACEPALM

  8. Ayyy lmao. its going to go up regardless like funky said. Did you know pre-moltdown 1 coin = 40k gold? I even remember buying 75k gold for 1 coin in molten-wow. 7500 g for 1 coin is ridiculous. Thank god these events came... we really need them to increase the economy =D

  9. So half of this thread doesn't know what inflation means. Joining Derpykins in the facepalm.

  10. Well what happened was...after Molt-Down people had starting gold to spend, they did that for an entire year until all the people out there had no more gold to spend on stuff. That alone made prices go down because people had no gold to spend therefore sellers had no other choice but to lower their own prices. With Warmane Xmas events it' became possible for brainless Billy to go and earn 200 EOT, 200 EOF and 20k gold in 40 mins, but wait that's not the end of it, Billy also summoned his 4 alts to COW dungeon and now Billy has 100k gold and another 40k gold worth of primos, crusader orbs, gems and so on. So now Billy is able to go and buy out all Eternal fire from AH because Billy has 100k gold. Now multiply guys like Billy by 400.

  11. Prices of items on AH and gold/coin ratio on trading did increase a lot during the events. Demand for gems, glyphs and BoE items also increased greatly, which caused some of the price increase. Apparently people started gearing alts during the events. Gold/coin ratio on trading can't go any higher than 11999 gold for 1 coin because of limitations and it's at that point already. There is a lot of gold on trading but most of it is not sold. But fee is paid for every sale posted on trading and the amount of gold those players have decreases with every sale posted. Taking the gold away doesn't sound like a good solution since the event was intended to work that way so the gold was obtained in a fair way. Prices will most likely return to normal eventually. The best way to speed it up would be opening some lottery for gold again like there used to be on Molten.

This is about Deathwing but I assume situation is similar on other realms.

You dont understand how businesses work or economies. Prices are going down or remaining the same. Primos have always fluctuated 500g here or there- Dream Shard, Abyss, Frozen, Eternals do not seem to be effected by the events. The only thing being effected by the events is Epic Gear, and thats because people are using their gold to either 1. Sell Epics for Coins or 2. Buying gear for alts. Those prices will return to normal within a week; competition is already stiff, undercutting will begin, and prices will return to a normal universal understanding of what is Overpriced. The only problem with DW is that a majority of the players are from Old Lordaeron; causing us to have a different idea of what Overpriced/regular pricing are.

A few examples of how inflation isn't happening is 1. Raging Behemoths were 35kish previous the events, they can now be bought for 25kish if you find the right seller. Merlins Robe was selling for 10k because Crusader Orb pricing was already inflated because of RHC farming from this year. Merlins are now selling for 25k on AH. I wouldn't ever pay 25k, no veteran player would, however soon another player will undercut this ridiculous price and begin selling them at 10k-15k again. Basically any price increase you are seeing is temporary/seasonal price gouging. People know other players are gearing toons so they are intentionally raising prices to generate more profit. It is simple business; the same way a lemonade that normally cost $3.00 will cost $5.00 in the summer. Many players had ungeared toons from the reset. You must do some math. Deathwing was started as an instant 80 server after Moltdown, 8000 or so instant level 80s with no gold and PvP gear. You cannot convince me that gold is inflated within 1 year of a server being up when everyone started at 80 and had no gold. Leveling doesn't provide gold with a x7 rate. You see people begging for gold just to get talents; that is the opposite of a inflated server.

Another thing, you cannot base your pricing and guide off of auction house prices. Wodins is listed for 100k right now and its the only one listed. Is it worth 100k ? No but that person has a monopoly on the Wodin market until someone else decides to sell another, undercut his price, and sell it for 80k. 80k is ridiculous price to me, but that will be further undercut with more time, and like with Old Lordaeron, by this time next year you'll see Wodin's selling for 5k-10k. Any craftable BoE is only worth as much as the mats cost plus a 10% tip btw

OP you dont sound like you haggle alot or know how to work the market. I got Bladeborn Leggins, usually selling for 45k-50k for only 30k earlier. Why? because the seller probably has had them for more than a few days and can't sell them at an inflated price, so he undercut his competition further coming down to 36k, still on the upperside of 40k, I haggled x10 Frozen Orb into the deal. 33k total investment for a 50k item.

Learn to sell your money. Sounds weird but if you can convince the seller that 1. They wont get their asking price 2. You can find it cheaper 3. Cash in Hand

9/10 a player will sell you something a few grand cheaper just so they dont have to wait, lose a cut to AH, or they have been sitting on the item for awhile. Chances are if you message the player whose item you are interested in, instead of buying it off AH, you can get it cheaper directly from them.

I got Behemoths for 18k prior to the events. I got Dubious Charm, the Mail belt, and Merlins robe for 35k. 10k for Robe, 10k for Legs, and 15k for belt.
