Just another great reason to skip WoD all together.
There´s always the one douche who cries for expansions in private servers before they are even released in retail. So so annoying.
Wod is ****ty, worst expansion ever made, and that showed in the largest subloss blizzard ever had, 7million sub lost due to bad quality and bad content or otherwise lack of it. So the people who say WOD is bad are nothing but correct.
And yes i played retail and came back here, because im not a fan of garrisonville.
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...orgulin/simple
Oh and can we talk about all the botting in retail and how Blizzard is trying to sue the developers of a very well know kick bot add on for ruining their game? lol and how it's taken Blizzard forever to actually crack down on these players and even if Blizzard does a 6 month ban or a perma ban it's incredibly cheap and easy to get a new account with a free 100 and some starter gear, and then you can still have a full honor set of pvp gear from ashran in just a few hours because holinka can't stop Premades and Blizzard won't ban the people that are hosting and leading these premades, lol.
Did I miss anything?
So innacurate it hurts. As always, those who know nothing other than private servers, will always join the bandwagon to crap on how bad the current expac is.
Because 7 year's old content never gets tiring, nor stale.
Edited: January 30, 2016
You're right. 7 year old content does get stale. But you know what also gets stale? WoD & Garrisonville after a year of "content patches" like the selfie-camera and twitter integration. I've had an active sub on retail since 2007, and probably will continue to forever have an active sub. I never thought any expansion would make me more bored than Cataclysm, but I was wrong. Incredibly wrong. I would much rather gamble my chances with Legion than to have Warmane waste their time on the P.O.S. that WoD is.
You can't say what I'm saying is inaccurate because I know nothing than other private servers, because I have played WoD since launch, and have seen and been through nearly every single intricate detail of the expansion. I have Loremaster of Draenor. I have collected all of the world treasures. I have all maxed professions. I have 8 level 100 characters. I have every achievement, accomplishment and every holiday decoration for Garrinsonville. I have played in every single arena and battleground (and Blizzard is blatantly ignoring class balance in pvp this expansion), been through the PvE-experience of Ashran that Blizzard has been trying to force PvPers through. I have cleared all Challenge Mode dungeons. I have done endless proving grounds up to wave 30. I have killed every raid boss on heroic and am doing Hellfire Citadel progression on mythic. The only content I have missed out on thus far are the mythic raid bosses I haven't beaten yet.
The raid content of the expansion is great. The leveling experience is great. Everything else doesn't amount to much and leaves the average player isolated and bored within their garrison, clicking buttons for free materials, gold and items.
So, should we continue to discuss how terrible the expansion is? Or perhaps should we move on to discuss the number of times that Blizzard has lied to the community, failed on the expectations of the expansion they set, or just the number of things they blatantly removed/discarded because they "didn't have enough time"?
Stop fanboying for the sake of "OH GOD NEW CONTENT MUST HAVE *screams like a girl*"
It's literally the biggest waste of time and effort Warmane could bother with.
But you didn't prove me wrong ><, don't come on to a thread and claim that my post are "inaccurate" and not explain to people what you think is inaccurate and untrue. Can you please enlighten us on what you're trying to say here, because I seriously don't get it and have no idea what you're talking about and if you're assuming that i'm on some kind of "bandwagon" because you think i only play on private servers, then I can only laugh at how wrong you are and as you don't know me you should make such an ignorant claim.
This is my retail account:
http://us.battle.net/wow/en/characte...leangel/simple
and I've had this exact same account since TBC and I've roughly enjoyed every expansion in some way up until WoD and do sincerely feel from the bottom of my heart that Blizzard did royally drop the ball here and as fast as their subs dropped below 5 mil and as fast as they even jumped ship on to the Legion project, it's pretty safe to say that even Blizzard knows how bad they screwed things up.
But its okay, I'll be sitting here and waiting for you come back and try and prove me wrong and show you have some sort real experience that shows that you know what's going on in retail and how it's all peachy over there these days.
P.S.
@ Lynea
Exactly!!! I got 3 months into WoD and saw what a failure it was and came running back here for a few months, then tried to suck it up and go back to retail for 6.2 and managed to get my flying, but didn't at all care to go back into the raid scene as i wanted to try and be more pvp focused, but after sitting through several arena matches and having to deal with the CC fest and cheaters using botting programs to cast their interupts for them i had with Blizzard and I just gave up and finally came back here (for good? I don't know...), but at least i'm having fun and making new friends.
and yes Ashran sucks and is forced and the single worst pvp experience I have ever had!! Ruined by to much PvE, faction inbalance, and dominated by premades.

I haven't really read up on this, but I'm assuming the TL;DR is that the Blizzard has given up on prevention and resorted to lawsuits?
But on topic, yeah I was one of those who went back to retail for WoD after quitting at the end of wrath. Made a new account (yay for recruit a friend), geared up a mage to 719 ilvl, and now I'm bored of it. I didn't touch the PvP side of things after hearing so many complaints, pretty much jumped into PvE. Hoping that legion will be better but I'm pretty sure that it'll be another letdown. Kinda reminds me of RuneScape back in the day, when Jagex changed owners, the game went from good (depending on who you talk to) to being so riddled with micro transactions that I'm amazed PayPal isn't supported on the general store.

Oh they're still trying to prevent botting, but come on let's be serious here for a moment? You can get a free character boost with every new account that'll fast track you to 100 and start you off with (i think) Item Level 700 gear and then you can gear up in a few hours in Ashran with premade and with a new account being like $20, they can't really stop the botting as it's easy for anyone to just buy new account, after new account, after new account.
But also the thing is from what i read is that Blizzard really can't sue the designer or publisher of said botting program as there's no real case there, so they're really just stuck there a bot invested game.
@ Warmane:
You have no idea what kind breath of fresh air it is to see someone's name in red come rolling across my screen and for what reason they've been banned. I love this feature and wish Blizzard would/could implement it.
That sounds like a great waste of time. I don't think many people play a private server to play the latest expansion.
Generally people play them to play the best expansions that which is why it's always Vanilla, TBC, and WoTLK that bring in the most people, hell I think MoP does better then Cata or WoD could do and as Legion isn't out yet, I guess only time will tell for sure, but if i was a betting man, i'd bet against Legion as Blizzard's whole direction has changed toward's what WoW is suppose to be. Now they just treat it as a cash-cow and not a true MMO"RPG".
Oh and Nerf Fury!!!

You're not following my point are you?
The thing that I stated is that in overall perspective of the law issue, Blizzard can shut down almost any server they wish to or cover any kind of royalty for image rights. Let's look at it in this way;
For example Warmane - Warmane uses their own Terms & Conditions and states that no self-profit is made with this server. Very well. Now let's look it in a law way:
A royalty is a payment made by one party (the "licensee") to another that owns a particular asset (the "licensor") for the right to ongoing use of that asset. Royalties are typically agreed upon as a percentage of gross or net revenues derived from the use of an asset or a fixed price per unit sold of an item of such, but there are also other modes and metrics of compensation.
The metrics of compensation can directly envolve donations, for example. This, talking in Warmane specific case. If Blizzard would really want to bug their *** that's a possible solution in a law perspective.
About the aspect of WoD servers out there, that reminds me of the several Cataclysm servers that were up as soon Cataclysm was released and they were vanished really fast. It just depends on the will of Blizzard doing something about the issue. You're not keeping in mind that copyright issues are a thing. Not only that - They might actually allow you to keep the server up but they have the full right to charge you royalties with ANY content that you decide to use. You're not keeping in mind that as soon you open the client the image that pops up it's Blizzard's logo. Just by doing that, even if you state that you're not distributing their scripting/client, you're server runs under that same logo in an indirect way. The law already gets a vote on that as well. It depends on the law that protects you though.
I only spoke about law issues. I didn't say that they would chase them. To be honest, they don't even care. Private servers serve a niche of players - They will never reach the numbers, even though their number of subscriptions dropped, that Blizzard reaches.
EDIT:
There's one huge issue that I forgot to mention though;
The current state rule. If you're in Europe, DMCA might not have a direct impact on you unless you have some kind of pressure from other courts. For example in the UK, same law is applied in Portugal, what Warmane does is considered illegal. If their host is there, here's the law that is applied:
any person issuing copies of the work to the public or communicating the work to the public; and
the owner of the copyright in the work, or his exclusive licensee; and
the owner of any intellectual property right in the technical device or measure, or his exclusive licensee.
who have the same rights against an infringement of this right as the owner of copyright has against infringement of copyright, including seizure.with respect to protected computer programs, by a person who "manufactures for sale or hire, imports, distributes, sells or lets for hire, offers or exposes for sale or hire, advertises for sale or hire or has in his possession for commercial purposes" any means "the sole intended purpose of which is to facilitate the unauthorised removal or circumvention of the technical device" or who publishes information intended to enable or assist other in removing or circumventing the technical device (new s. 296 of the 1988 Act);
with respect to other protected works, by a person who knowingly circumvents the technical measures (new s. 296ZA of the 1988 Act);
by a person who manufactures, imports, distributes, sells or advertises any device or product which, or provides services which:
are promoted or marketed for the purpose of circumventing such measures; or
have only limited commercial significance beyond circumventing such measures; or
are primarily designed, produced, adapted or performed for the purpose of enabling or facilitating the circumvention of such measures (new s. 296ZD of the 1988 Act).I remember reading that some years ago ago there was a server called "WoWScape" that was making hundreds of thousands per month and Blizzard sued them for $88 million. They won the case. I'm not sure about their location though.manufacturing for sale or hire, importation, sale or distribution of devices or products which are primarily designed or adapted for the purpose of the circumvention of technological measures;
providing, promoting, advertising or marketing a service the purpose of which is to enable or facilitate the circumvention of technical measures.
The whole issue is debatable and it has too many issues that can actually be discussed depending on each country, continent and so on. The only thing that cannot be discussed are the copyrights as I said in the start of this same comment.

Ignoring the legal reasons.
They CAN create a legion realm but will be to an extent of non-working abilities or quests.
With every expansion in order to create a working private server you need to reverse engineer the WoW client it self to identity how the WoW client is communicating to the Blizzard Server then 'we' simply replicate that communication to trick the client that it's not communicating to the Blizzard server but the emulator itself.
Reverse engineering the WoW client is simply not easy, and it's time consuming as it's all trial and error.
