Shadowmourne quest works?

regardless of how long it takes to get, there won't be any more donations simply because the quest is available. if anything they'll be less.

Well going through the chain quest the first couple of quests are easy an straight forward the difficult part is obtaining the 50 shadowfrost shards. Val'anyr is a bit harder since the drop rates vary between 3-14% and are only obtainable on 25 normal and 25 HC. Will this effect donations negatively? Maybe.

So conserving DKP while you farming LOD on multiple characters 3 times a week is harder than:
-be selected as next shadowmourne owner in specific guild raid
-spend 50k on primos
-farm 1k souls on trash mobs in ICC
-kill PP without using abom abilities on oozes at first half of the fight(since u need it to infuse SE)
-get bite on BQL, bite other ppl 4 times without dying and while you taking about 4k extra dmg per dot tick(with SE equipped ofc)
-get breathed by Sindragosa 3(or 4, dont remember exactly) times with SE equipped
-collect 50 shards from ICC 25n/25hc raids

Dont think that it will affect donations, any player who wants it and can afford it still going to donate instead of 3month shards farming

When you put like that then I have to admit it sounds difficult also I'd to correct something the drop rate on the Val'ynar shards is 40% so my atlasloot tells me the difficult part is finding people willing to consistently do Ulduar with.
