Current lvl 77 mage looking for a good grind spot. I tried vile hold, but the mobs throw unstable affliction for some reason, they never did that on retail. I'm wondering if anyone has another good grinding spot for exping/aoe pulling. I would really appreciate it.

At this stage it would be worthwhile questing for the factions you will need reputation with at lv 80.

Head to Dalaran Sewers and talk to the goblin down there, he'll give you a quest to head to K3. Start on those quest and work your way into Son's of Hodir and get your rep to Honored. Also Grab a tabard from The Violet Citadel - Kirin Tor (head up the second flight of stairs and talk to the Quater Master). Do a good mix of dungeons and Storm Peaks quest and you should hit 80 easily, if you also wanna buff up your gear score a little, make sure you run Culling of Strathholm, Utgard Pennicle, Halls of Light and Halls of Stone and The Occulus, along with doing quest in Icecrown. That should push your item level up enough to get you into heroics.
Take care and good luck and remember, the fastest route isn't always the best route, even at 80 you could find yourself doing stuff you could/should have been doing while leveling, IE: Head and Shoulder Enchants and/or Professions.
