Technical Can't play?

Hello, I just finished downloading the client and I have everything set up but when I sign in it says there is a patch required and I download it but it doesn't work. I don't know what to do.

So It turned out it was giving me an update for Cataclysm so I deleted that and extracted the game again and now I'm logged in but when I select a server it just says logging in to server and doesn't do anything, i tried waiting.
