Hello, I currently play an orc elemental shaman on Lordaeron and I can't wrap my head around on what's wrong with my hit rating and spell penetration...
I keep missing with my spells and they keep getting resisted while being I believe capped in both spell hit rating and spell penetration for PVP. For example, 20 minutes ago while in a battleground, I missed with my flame shock on a holy paladin and a hunter resisted my earthbind totem...
I'm at 158 hit rating (which is 6%) and 135 spell penetration. As I understand, it shouldn't happen unless it's a cloak of shadows or something like that, but it isn't the case. What am I doing wrong? Is the cap even higher? Do I have some kind of visual bug or something?
I've left a screenshot of said stats just in case. Any help is very well apreciated.
Sacred Cleansing talent from holy paladins causes spells what resist to show up as misses. Also some classes for example rogues and rets have spell miss chance in talents.
Also I'm not sure if totems get your spell penetration in wrath of the lich king. Hunter traps don't atleast.
Basically, for spell casters in PvP 4% is a soft cap, meaning that you shouldn´t miss a spell unless the enemy has a special racial ability ( blood elves against all magic, undeads against shadow spells etc.) and 6 % is a hard cap (allowing you to cap even abovementioned racials). However, some classes have talents which increase the chance that enemy spells won´t hit them (rogue, prot warr, ret) and you CAN´T cap these talents in any way, making anything above 6% hit completely useless.
As for spell pen, 135 should be fine unless you are fighting a mage, as mage armor stacks with other resistance buffs such as MotW. Also, arcane mage has higher resists just by itself if I remember correctly.
And of course, our precious and most surely not "broken" sacred cleansing talent can and will f*ck you up anytime, regardless of your hit or pene.
