Hello, I've been playing WoW for a little bit now but something I was never able to really understand is the AH and how to make a lot of gold from it.
People are selling epics, mounts, pets at 10k gold each and the mats are all 5k+.
What is something that sells very quickly and consistently so that I can go farm it for the AH? Should I be farming mats or items?
I do not have a very high GS, so preferably something that doesn't involve killing other players such as farming <insert fish name here> with 450 fishing.
First, you will need a bit of gold by farming herbs. One herb in particular that sells for a high price and in high demand is Briarthorn. In Icecrown realm, one Briarthorn sells between 20-30g each. In my case, farming Briarthorn gives me so much business that I continue to farm it even at level 80. Take advantage of this.
Next, you can buy green BoE gear and recipes from vendors and resell them in AH for 10x to 30x the vendor price. In particular, buy and sell [Charred Bear Kabob], [Juicy Bear Burger] and [Monster Egg Omelet] recipes from Felwood; each recipe easily sells for 100g each! Again, take advantage of this.
Now, once you have accumulated thousands of gold, you can start buying and selling high-end on-demand mats, such as Primos and Eternals. During this stage, pay attention to global chat; there are always impatient people who sell these mats much cheaper from the AH. If AH price is currently too low, you can keep it in the meantime and post it when the prices are up again. Patience is needed in order to get rich.
Leather is usually a fantastic thing to farm, basically never ending supply. And if you get mid level leather outland ect people will buy it when they are levelling there own leatherworking profession.
Thanks for all the replies. I've seen Tarou's guides before but he plays the AH a lot, which requires knowledge of the auction house.
Since I generally stay away from the AH and market, I have no idea what anything costs and how to prevent scams.
For example, what is the staple price that I should be selling Damaged Necklaces? People sell to me 650g, I can only sell them at 500g, and the AH is 800g?
Perhaps a thread post about the price that one should sell certain items would be good for new players. I know the market price changes of things, but people don't sell/buy things at market price... if you usually buy/sell Eternal Earth at 100g each and the market price/AHprice says it’s selling at 400g each, you wait f or it to drop down back to 100g. A thread posting all the prices that you wait for things to drop ba ck down towards would be nice. :)
All prices are relative. There is no set price for anything. So let's say you can find saronite bars for 700g stack and eternal fires for 300g each. Now those prices are like 3 times as what they should be but does it matter if you can craft a piece of Savage saronite with blacksmitthing and sell it for 3k? Only profit matters. Prices don't matter.
Another example is buying a Reins of crimson deathcharger for 60k and reselling on Ah 20 mins later for 75k. While their price on AH is 90k. You could try your luck putting the mount up for 89k and see what happens. But why wait if you can get a quick profit of 15k and be done with it. People who are able to sell items quickly make the most gold. Buying items and holding them for long periods of time rarely works.
Collecting professions like Herbalism/Skinning are probably the best gold earners.
I wouldn't recommend mining as it is very hard to find nodes. There are so many mining alt paladin's with ashes + crusader aura who generally keep the nodes scarce. Even if you do find a node it only gives a retail amount of ore (usually less) so it's generally an unrewarding experience.
To farm gold make mining and herbalism . Download the addon gathermate . It remembef where you mined . Focus on expensive bars like co balt . Cobalt is fiunded mainly in zuldrak . I got about 200 ore a day .

True that on Skinning. Last the I checked Arctic Fur prices, it averaged 900g each. That's crazy!
I disagree with gathering professions being the best gold earners though because you are limited with the amount of time you play. Most profitable would be the Mining-Alchemy-JC cycle, which requires at least two toons.

So what price do you set items at? I don't know what the prices to set the items at to make them sell. There's some talk about newbs who destroy the AH price by setting prices too low, but it's not their fault because they don't know what the price of items are.

Some have told me selling mats are the best, but what prices do I sell the mats at? I'm on Icecrown. I know fish (which is a mat) and even stacks of Fish Feast/other cooked food do not sell very well. :( If prices are relative, it depends, etc. is the answer, then I'm afraid I will set the price too low and get scammed all the time.

Arctic fur is very rare, just like farming Sentry Cloaks (rare twink items) that have long return times. I am willing to do 1-2 hours of farming, but playing 5-6 hours and never getting a twink item drop is a little scary for me.
By the mining-JC-alch cycle, do you mean saronite -> transmute -> titansteel OR saronite -> prospect -> gem -> transmute -> epic gem? Titansteel and epic gems do not seem to sell a lot because they have only around 3 pages of posted auctions last time I check. Glyphs have around 14 pages so they sell much more frequently but I suspect that I do not have the gold to level up inscription.
