We all know that many people loved and love old content. Every expansion is progressive (as it should be), but leaves old content abandoned, relying it to transmog and achievement purposes.
We know that Blizzard isn't going to bring back the old expasions (as expasion servers), however, what about expanding TIMEWALKING a lot more than just a few dungeons?
What about creating a "global" downgrade option as an "expansion instance"?
To summarize, it would be like having the option to play one of multiple Virtual Desktops (think Linux and Windows 10).
currently, the "virtual desktops" are Vanilla, TBC, WotLK, Cata, MoP, WoD and Legion
- Every player starts in the current Expasion
- You have the option to "timetravel" to a "expansion virtual desktop" which means you could travel from Legion to Cata
- In this virtual Cataclysm Instance, all the newest zones are blocked or invisible to the player
- All items obtained in the virtual instance have Cataclysm-like stats.
- All Raids and Dungeons bosses have the same difficulty they had in such expasion
- When you start in this Virtual Cataclysm Instance, you starting level is closest to the tenth of your current level. If you're lvl 78, you will be 80, if you're level 72, you will be 70.
- You will be nude, and will have to obtain gear as anybody else
- Professions will downgrade to the last possible level if they're are at max level, (ex: for 600 to 525) or to 0 if it isn't
Like this, there could be 12.000 players online in a single realm, sorted between the many expasions.
- Gold is transported between these virtual instances.
